They work for containing plants. I used smaller one in the next size up. Some plants don't like the water from filter hitting them. It worked

I was thinking it’d be more like a rubber material, but that’s my fault for not reading in depth. It’s cheap, and worth the price. The foam is basically a pool noodle material, very soft, wouldn’t hurt your fishies fins at all. I used this so I could have a little hole to feed my betta, as on the top of his tank I have frogbit, which is to deter him from jumping out lol 😭 but overall I would buy again if I was to set up another tank, I believe there were about 6-7 of the floating circles, and the 3 smallest were perfect for my 5 gallon tank.

Some of the rings were larger than needed, but can simply cut them in half and have 2 rings. Definitely float and definitely keep the area clear of floating plants.
