These spiral-grooved drill bits excel at efficient chip removal and cooling, resulting in cleaner, faster, and more durable drilling, especially in harder materials.

This step bit works great. It stays sharp and is easy to use. Less expensive than big box stores too.

Theres a couple ways to look at these bits in terms of rating. I'm giving the 5 stars based on description, price, and realistic expectations. If comparing these to other step bits I've owned with no regard to price or expectations, they might get a 2... possibly a 3.I ran one of the bits through some relatively light sheet metal for making a securement strap. The few holes I made went quick & smooth. I did run a hole through a thin scrap of of oak. No issue. And through a scrap of Kydex... again, no issue. If I were to run through a thicker sheet of stainless I have a feeling I may get a bit disappointed. But I tempered my expectations in terms of these being comparable to something sold at that famous nation wide (in the US at least) discount tool retailer (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it by name... but they may have freight that is in harbors).

It's easy to get carried away with these and drill too big of a hole. I use a red sharpie(tm) to mark the circumference of the size I'm drilling. And since the bottom (narrow) set of drill step numbers are near impossible to read in any light. The upper larger holes are in a different color printing and easier to read than the bottom set.I've only cut aluminum sheet and about a dozen counter sinks in hardwood, and for those this has worked great. It comes with a handy case for storage so you don't bash it up unintentionally. And it looks pretty radical and intimidating ;-)

Pretty good yet inexpensive step drill bits. Where these type bits shine is to toss into your tool bag in case you need to knock a hole in some thin material and don't necessarily need to have a precision job. For grabbing one of these instead of finding the exact correct size bit and setting it up, they work great. I have used them to punch holes in a metal shop building to run wiring through with a grommet and they worked great. The quality is about what one would expect for the price, but for quick use, they offer a good value alternative to the higher priced cutting tools.

I tried many steps bits and I gotta say that these are a Step Above the rest! With a13,12 and 9 -Step hole cuts, combined with a135 cutting angle with a 4-cutting blade design these Step Bits will produces a more consistent and a longer lasting edge.Made from M35 Cobalt high speed steel, makes these Bit cut through metals, wood and plastic with ease, the step bits are designed with functionality and durability in mind, coated with AITiN adds resistance to heat, wear and corrosion.Overall, these Step bits cuts really easily, its price point to what it offers makes this a great purchase, I’ll do an update review in a couple of weeks to see if it holds up.

I've been using step drills forever, and have seen the gamut in quality. This one comes with minimal disposable packaging (good) and in a very nice bit case. First impression was it looked well made and not like cheap junk. Far better than some of the cheap bits I've gotten from the usual cheap tool store. The hex shank is ground, the cutting edges are extremely sharp, and the size numbers are engraved as opposed to laser etched, which I think is much nicer. I was impressed! Minor drawbacks, it didn't punch a new hole very well, so you'll want to pilot drill. The coating looks like black oxide coating to me, but whatever it is, it started to rub off on the first hole I drilled, so I'm not convinced it's a AlTiN (PVD) coating. The hole I drilled was in 16ga mild steel. It ate the steel as quickly as any step bit I've used and is still perfectly sharp. I couldn't tell you how long this will last because I'm not going to drill holes all night to find out.

I was excited to get this and very disappointed when it arrived. The bit does not have any type of cutting edge on it at all. Normally with a step bit you can feel the sharpness of the edge where the groove is cut. This one is very smooth. I'm very disappointed with that fact. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
