  • NOTE: There is very little oil in the transfer case assembly. When you receive the product, you must add it according to the oil type on the product label, it will make a lot of noise and be broken quickly without doing that.
  • This part due to its location is subject to extreme heat and typically causes low mileage oil leaks from the transmission or PTU. Any fluid leaks should be addressed immediately to prevent failure. It is very important to verify all other related components do not have a problem or failure may be repeated. This Power Take Off Assembly matches the function and performance of the original PTO on certain vehicle applications. Restores drivability and all-wheel drive (AWD) functionality after original PTO fails.

About Power Tak-Off (PTO)

The Power Transfer Units (PTU), also known as Power Take-Off (PTO), is an all-wheel drive (AWD) transfer case used in cars and sport utility vehicles. It allows for power to all four wheels either part time or full time, and also varies how much power goes to the front and rear by specific driving conditions.

When the power take-off fails, the most direct and obvious result is that the gear pump does not rotate, the hydraulic dumping system loses its power source, and the entire system is in a paralyzed state and cannot work.

Fits for following vehicles:

  • 2007-2015 Ford Edge V6 213 3.5L (3496cc)
  • 2011-2015 Ford Explorer V6 213 3.5L (3496cc)

Replace Your Bad PTO Transfer Case On Time

PTOs are relatively simple mechanical units with few operational problems, but there are a few common issues associated with them. Here are some of the most frequently encountered issues:

  1. Clutch will not disengage: Slipping and overheating are common causes of this issue. To fix this problem, disassemble, inspect, and replace if necessary.
  2. Clutch will not stay engaged: Improper adjustment is the most common cause, remedied through adjusting engagement torque.
  3. PTO is hot. Several issues contribute to overheating (220º F measured by infrared thermometer at the bearing carrier), including too much or too little grease, excessive side load, or a new installation. Follow proper lubrication specifications and reduce the side load to remedy the first two problems. A newly installed PTO will run hot for the first 10-20 hours of operation after installation.

We installed the PTU and I noticed it was noisy right away. I contacted the vendor and he kept giving me excuses about contacting the factory until the time for returning it had expired and then he quit communicating with me. I have reported this vendor to Amazon but I doubt they will do anything.DO NOT BUY FROM THIS VENDOR!

It arrived on time. It is a perfect fit for our 2013 Ford edge. So far it has performed well.

I bought this for my 2013 Ford Edge. It was definitely cheaper than buying it from Ford but apparently came with no guarantees. After a month of driving my vehicle, the seal broke and I had to get another repair (with a Ford seal) which set me back another $400. I reached out to Amazon, who tried to send me to the supplier, but the link was invalid and I had no way to contact them. I was past the return date, but you'd think for almost $900, there would be some kind of recourse. Not really impressed with the whole situation.

This is fairly difficult to do, but not bad if you have a lift and a lot of extensions. Installed in my son's 2012 Edge and worked without a problem. Be sure to fill it before installing! Better than a used one, overall a pretty good deal!

Takes a little time but this is not a hard part to change. Take the r/h CV axle and intermediate shaft completely out. Lower exhaust, remove rear catalytic converter. Remove rear torque mount and LOOSEN the sub frame. Bong the thing will fall out. Getting it back in is weight lifting but not all that bad. Be sure to remove tape on vent! Remove the fill plug and fill it up. Put everything back and drive for another 10K miles. It has a drain plug to make it so you can change the axle fluid in it easy.Plenty of ytube videos already because Ford made a bad designed part and everyone knows it but Ford.

Sold the 2010 Ford Edge the day after installing this, but seems like a quality product. I really liked the drain plug. The bad reviews must not have checked the fluid level before installing, mine was nearly empty, and very little residue in the packaging. Removed 1 star for that reason. I had already planned on draining it and using Redline lightweight shockproof oil.

I wondered about quality being priced so reasonable. It works as it should. Longevity? Just as likely to last as much as all the other Chinese made parts. I am glad I bought this one. It has a small drain plug to replace the gear oil which the original Ford one did not even have. I replaced this with youtube diy vids. I have limited mechanic skills and it went fine. The exhaust and cat nuts were the most difficult part. I did not drop the subframe on my Flex. I jacked the engine up to make room to get it out. I was quoted 3000 dollars for this job at my local shop.

Lasted 4 months, less than 6000 miles. Poor quality control- bearing failed and leaked all fluid, resulting in a catastrophic failure at highway speeds. Stick with OEM Ford on this repair and thank me later.

The product was delayed at custom for almost 3 weeks. Caused a lot of inconvenience for the mechanic shop and us being out of a family vehicle. Got to the point where I almost requested a refund. It eventually arrived but all the fluid inside spilt out. The mechanic had to put in new fluid but once all that is sorted out. The product worked as advertised. I can't speak for longevity but for now, the product served its purpose.Ford Explorer XLT 2012
