About this item

  • Built for shooters, the 704 Gear Fader protects your hearing from the the sound of gunfire with 23dB rated noise level protection, whether outdoors or at the shooting range.
  • Seamlessly detects and amplifies low frequency noises, enabling communication and situational awareness in the field, while muffling high freqency noises such as gunfire. Active hearing protection can be turned on, off, or adjusted via the volume control dial. Powered by 2 AAA batteries (included with purchase). Features 4 omnidirectional microphones for capturing sound from all directions. Includes an audio jack for walkie talkie attachments.
  • Includes CO-Z gel silicone ear pads - softer and more comfortable than the traditional hard foam ear pads included with competing models. The soft gel pads conform to the contours of your head while maintaining their seal. The added flexibility allows for use with eye protection or glasses.
  • Low profile design, with slimline ear cups and an adjustable length headband, allowing for usage with long guns without interfering with head positioning.
  • Collapsible folding ear cups allow for compact storage when not in use. A velcro strip at the base of the headband allows for personalization with velcro patches. Includes a 704 Gear logo patch.

I have had these on the range a couple of times now. They do a good job of reducing noise. The headband is much the same as other muffs, a bit snug if your dome is on the larger side. The wind rejection is not as good as stated on the packaging, gusts directly into the mic will cause wind noise, sometimes quite significant. A dead cat of some sort would probably help with that. Battery life so far has been good, and it's easy enough to swap batteries out. Over all these are on the high side of mid-range ear pro.

If you're looking to get a nice pair of electronic ear protection at a really great price, then look no further. The sound dampening works very well as do the microphones which allow you to hear ambient noise around you. Voices and such are allowed through while loud gunshots are blocked. The other great thing with this ear protection is it comes already with upgraded gel ear cups. I remember with other name brands I used to have to do that upgrade on the side. So you can beat these for function or price. Very Good Ear Protection.

Overall, one of if not the best set I’ve owned for reducing the impact of shooting or other sharp, loud, noises! The gel ear pads are very comfortable and a major reason these work so well to protect your hearing. The electronic audio system for hearing conversations and range orders works very well. Very pleased with this purchase and the performance of the over-the-ear hearing protection they provide!

The most comfortable pair of ear protection I have ever worn! The ear pads let me wear my sunglasses without discomfort! A great deal!

Works, but some parts could be better quality. These make my ears SWEAT. The ear cups provide a good seal around the ear, which is what they're designed to do, but the material is a very slick plastic and I start sweating under the ear cups almost instantly. I have other sets of muffs that also have a good seal, but do not have this type of material. The ambient noise pass through seems to work fine, along with the volume control. It's nice to have a 3.5mm jack input for phone or MP3 player, but the jack on the muffs is oriented horizontally, so if your headphone cable is straight, it's going to stick straight out. You'll want to use a cable with a 90 degree end. These do function for their main purpose, which is muffling loud shots.

I have spent a lot of time on the range, not only for work, but for leisure too.Over the years, I've gained experience from my mistakes and training with some awesome instructors. The hardest thing to do at a gun range is hear instructions or other people talking when you have earplugs in, or sound deafening headsets. It's always take them off put them on, and oh, the worst is earplugs, trying to get them back in just right again is such a pain. With that said these electronic earmuffs by 704 Gear are great. The 704 Gear is a trusted outdoor brand with me, as they make very nice knives which I have several of.The comfort is amazing, the sound quality is clear, and they defen automatically with any noise over 23db. The sound enhances when your not shooting and I joked you could hear the squirrels in the woods from a much further distance with them on.The only issue that I have is the same as another reviewer and the battery cover is loose after putting batteries in. It didn't fall off during the review, but it doesn't feel secure.I didn't have any issues with transition from rifle to pistol, and they don't get in the way like bulky earmuffs do. They don't compromise your ear protection because the butt of the gun is pressing against it.Overall a good set of ear protection, from a trusted outdoor company. However they way these get tossed around the battery cover issue should be looked into for peace of mind.

As soon as I turn it on there's a noticeable hiss. The active noise reduction does not work. It's as loud whether turned on or off. Very disappointed in this.

Got these for NHRA drag races and fireworks so my nephew who is very sensitive to loud noises can enjoy these activities without freaking out. They are well fitting and adjustable even for his child head. Noise reduction can always be better, but 23 dB is average for this style of ear protection. When you turn on the active electronic noise reduction they work exceptionally well (although, this is the first ones with this feature that I've used). Compared to a plain jane pair of ear muffs these are on the high end of loud noise reduction and work well with high frequency and low frequency (the former being what you get from Nitro cars in NHRA that tickles your inner ear and you can feel in your chest; the latter being what you get from gunfire and the like that makes your ears ring).Haven't used them enough to review battery life, but I will only update if they are killing batteries very quickly. The price is actually the same as I've paid for a pair of pro ear muffs with a slightly higher rating (34 dB reduction, made for shooting shotguns) that didn't have electronic noise cancellation. They fit well, but the padding could be softer around the ears; however, for an adequate seal for maximum protection, this design is well-made for that purpose... comfort is always secondary to noise reduction and ear protection in my opinion.
