So you need to cover a pole that is 6" square, right? That's a linear measurement of 24" total. (In my case it is a round support pole in the basement so, I admit, I didn't expect that a 24" pad would wrap my pole tightly - that is, I expected some play.) But not like this!First of all, the pad is 29" wide, not 24" - five additional inches is quite a lot!Second, and I confess I probably should have realized this had I carefully looked at the photos on the Seller's page. The hook and fastener straps that are used to fasten the padding in place extend outward from the padding. Picture it! Even IF the padding were 24" how would the padding wrap tightly and securely around a 6" square pole? The fastening straps do not allow for a tight fit - ever - with padding that wraps fully around the pole. The fasteners will ALWAYS leave a gap where there will be no padding. So, if your pole is 6" square, you need 24" of padding to fully wrap the pole. This padding is five inches wider than you need. Then add the length of the fastening straps - which extend from the padding: That's another five inches! In other words, with the padding I received, 29" wide + 5" of strap = a covering that is 34" wide! Now, the fastening strap may be corrected - cut off one strap and glue it to the black cover. That will allow the padding to be wrapped securely around a pole and reduce the width to the size of the padding (remember - 29", not 24"). Alternatively, I suppose, ignore the fastening straps altogether and wrap the padding around a pole using rope.Last point: I am not an expert in materials, I admit (I can use a measuring tape but knowing the difference between types of plastic? No. types of leather? No. types of wood? No - well, not usually anyway!) The Seller describes the removable black cover as "waterproof leather" and "black advanced leather". I seriously doubt this claim unless by "advanced" the Seller means "plastic."
