Using to store ~170 lbs. of roof top tent and attached bed rails on an 8' ceiling. Able to configure it to get the tent pretty close to the ceiling, maximizing parking space underneath. Had to replace the welded eye bolt after bending it, but this was because I mounted it at a 90 degree instead of straight on. No issues after mounting the replacement at the correct angle. Installed additional hooks and ratchet straps on separate joists as a failsafe while storing the tent up, but no issues after a couple of months use.

Installed it alone in about 5 hours, most of that time was finding my ceiling joists as my stud finder didn't like the metal-embedded drywall that was there.Supports my 14' sailing dinghy (~120lbs fully dry) just fine.I opted to use GRK 5/16" x 4" star drive structural wood screws rather than traditional lags as they're self-tapping. They also get more into the "meat" than the suggested 3 1/2" lags would.I used full length 2"x6"x8' mounting boards to maximize the number of joists to anchor in. At each joist, I sunk 2 screws. I'd recommend this, as it feels extremely well attached. The least robust part in the kit seems to be the pigtail eyes that hold the corner blocks up to the mounting boards. They can flex when the hoist is in use, and my load is 120 of the 200 pound limit. If I had it to do over again, I'd find a better way to mount the corner blocks. All in all, I recommend the kit, but don't be afraid to make adjustments.

I had some challenges in deciding how to lay this out as a kayak hoist in my garage. I took many measurements for different layouts for the hoist and direction of line pull. The laser tape measure was a big help and time saver. I was constrained by the way the garage ceiling was uneven, with soffits containing HVAC ducts, the garage door opener hardware, and existing shelving hanging from the ceiling. I was finally able to decide on a mounting location that met all the requirements for proper lift height and joist location for hoist mounting with good kayak fit. The next challenge was to do the installation single-handedly. After getting the 2x6's installed, things went fairly quickly and smoothly. After everything was in place, I tested the setup with my kayak. Everything went well. I needed to adjust only the lengths of the cords to the carrying straps for evenness and maximum lift height. The final result was better than I expected. Measure 3 times, Cut once. I could probably have bought the components ala carte for less, but I would not have the confidence in the system that I now have with components matched for performance. I suspect others would have an easier time installing this in an empty garage. My challenges were not due to the design or quality of the product.

My hubby is so happy with his hoist and highly recommends! What a fantastic way to store the canopy for our pickup truck...high and dry when not in use. It is a cinch for one person to raise and lower the canopy on and off the truck as needed. Installation was easy to follow along with the directions provided. We opted for a "used" hoist and were able to save a good amount of money. Our son and his friend stopped by the other day and his friend was so impressed with our hoist he was going to purchase one for himself. You can't go wrong with this hoist and we definitely would buy again!

I store my kayaks, up in the ceiling space. Typically I use the inexpensive style available. However I’ve discovered with constant use, the cheaper assemblies break down and the contents of the kayak need to be removed. This hoist assembly is made for high use and no need to remove, anchor, crates, seats ,tackle boxes……..it all goes up with ease.Definitely a value for heavy, high use items.

For the cost (which is too much), this should have included the hardware for the 2x6 support boards you need to screw into the ceiling studs. Takes a while to install correctly.I can one arm this thing, raising or lowering, for a 90 lb kayak filled with paddles, accessories, so from functional perspective is great, once you get it installed. If you are not lowering this down onto a car, and need to go to the floor,,, keep in mind that you may run out of room between the actual ceiling junction, and the wall mount loop, which means you have to adjust the straps higher, and it will need to be lowered only part of the way to floor (does low enough to sit on saw horse, etc).In picture,,, if distance in blue is further than distance in Red, then the kayak will not drop down all the way to the floor.Dinging it one star due to install complexity, and cost.

Easy to install and easy to lift. Nice to be able to store my canopy out of the way on the garage ceiling

Excellent quality of all components, very clear installation instruction. Just have an issue with the rope release mechanism that I haven't figured out yet and I had to mount the rope about 45 degrees to the side so that I could lower the kayak to the floor because I didn't have enough distance, as they explain in the instructions. They provide instructions for running the rope to the side wall, which I may do. I decided to get the 200 lb. capacity hoist for my 80 lb. kayak, but figured it was worth the extra money. Too many bad reviews on the cheap hoists that may me keep searching for quality with good reviews. The 8:1 mechanical advantage is well worth it, the kayak goes up with little effort, I didn't want to struggle lifting it as I get older. Buying a second one, I waited until I installed the first one to see if I liked it.
