Used this to find intermittent leak on BMW X3.Finally located that it was coming from thermostat flange that was made of plastic and was deteriorating. Using this pressure tester it will leak on that flange when pressurized.

Good quality. Simple to use. Mechanic wanted 105 dollars to do the test plus cost of repairs. As I was pumping about 7 lbs saw the leak and tightened the hose clamp. End of problem.

Failed gasket behind water pump. It saved me more money than it cost me. Using this tool helped me verify there was no other leaks when the problem was rectified.Autozone wanted $270 down just to rent one.

The point of a radiator/coolant system Pressure tester is to pump air into the system and watch for a drop in pressure on the pressure guage. A slow or steady drop in pressure would indicate that the cooling system has a leak somewhere. Which can be alarming and costly. On first use, my vehicle showed a steady drop in pressure indicated, but after further inspection, the pump was losing pressure by itself regardless of being connected to the vehicle or not.Basically, the pump and gauge leaks no matter what! The leaks is very slow, but actually comes between two parts of the pump that were supposed to be "welded" together. Again, poor quality control is the problem with this one. Stay away, or roll the dice and make sure the pump holds pressure on it's own when you get yours..

I say intuitive because it has to be, there are no instructions. Since it is a automotive cooling system pressure tester, I expected to have to use an adapter to connect where the coolant is added to the system. I picked through the numerous adapters provided, and found one that looked like a good fit. Right the first time! It screwed right on my expansion tank. Then I looked at the pump assembly and saw it was a snap fitting, and the adapter had the matching male fitting on it, so I snapped the pump onto the adapter and started pumping away. It took awhile to get it to 1 bar, and it seems to be holding - I'm writing this review to give it a chance to bleed down and hoping it doesn't.There are a lot of parts in the kit, all arranged nicely in a latching plastic case. I have no idea what most of the parts that are not adapters for various types and models of vehicles are, and probably will never have a reason to find out. One item is a temperature probe, somewhat similar to the one you use to see if your roast is done in the oven. Looks nice, but I don't expect to need or use it.All in all, having owned it for about 10 minutes now, I am very satisfied with this purchase - the cheapest unit I could find on a decent car parts website was about $200 - too much for my purposes, and I could not find one to rent locally.

Had issues with this leaking. I used it for a BMW E39 540i, so only used one adapter. Other adapters may work better however for me the adapter cap leaked no matter how much it was tightened. I went out and bought the Harbor Freight kit and was quickly able to see why. First the sealing ring in the cap was loose and the ledge in the adapter cap itself that seals to the expansion tank was a few millimeters too short. This was clear and obvious when compared to the HF cap. I don't know if it's simply manufactured wrong/poorly or if I got a dud. Otherwise the kit seemed to be of good quality.
