I saw reviews for other Chinese made washers like these that said the drain plug loosened and the felt coating came off. I pulled one from the bag and ran it under warm water and yes the blue material began to slough right off. I'm planning to get it all off with fine steel wool and use it anyway. It's a crush washer. What's the blue stuff for anyway? I will monitor for tightness just in case. I'm assuming the plug got loose because the blue stuff disappeared after tightening. Will plan ahead and buy genuine Toyota next time because the stuff coming off with water is just weird and doesn't give me a lot of confidence. Engine oil is kind of important.

I have 3 Toyotas and always change my own oil. Till now I've always bought these washers from Toyota. These washers look exactly the same. I just used one of these and it seems to be working exactly as expected - no leaks.
