Just used it yesterday for the first time. It did the job but was a tight fit making it difficult to establish a full jaw lock. Haven’t used a different style but seems like the ones that are inserted into the middle of the spring may work better.

This was strong enough to compress the frunt struts on my 2017 gmc sierra 5.3. They are a bit bulky. I put black never seize on the threads and had no problem

Ordered these spring compressors to do my wife's struts ('15 Outback). First off, spring compressors are notoriously dangerous. These are a much safer version of the old double hook design. Love that these positively clamp and capture the spring coil and the horseshoe bracket helps keep them lined up opposite one another. Some have commented about threads stripping or breaking after a use or two, but I suspect they didn't read the directions and thoroughly lube the screws, or used an impact instead of a ratchet. I'll admit an acme thread would be preferable, but these operated super smoothly and I never felt them bind or grind in the slightest (again well lubed). I don't know if it's the best way, but I hand tightened them and the did 3 rotations to start the 1st side and then 6 alternating back and forth after that to keep everything lined up until springs were compressed. I backed off the same way. Zero issues and zero complaints. I think these are a good buy and operate as safely and effectively as anything short of a commercial wall mount like a Branik.

Super easy to use, had absolutely no issues compressing the front springs on my 2013 Silverado Z71 to replace the front struts. Solid, no movement or flex at all, used a (fairly weak) 3/8" impact to cinch the bolts down. I did use the half-moon safety/alignment piece, but this seemed pretty unnecessary.

I had the old kind which probably would have worked. Bought these because they looked a lot safer.Zipped them on with my impact swapped the shock out and was done.Still don’t totally get the connecting piece across, but very easy to use without the fear of it slipping off.

These ABN spring compressors worked flawlessly. Threads seem like they will hold up for a number of jobs. Threads are enclosed with a metal cylinder for more structural integrity and also acts as a safety device if the bolt ever fails and shatters under load. Used synthetic motor oil, on hand, on Threads when compressing . Reapply everytime I put the Threads under load and then clean off excess oil when finished with job. And to see if excessive wear marks were left behind. Didn't see any wear after using 4 x. Used on mid size oem truck springs but haven't used on after market HD springs yet.

Replaced the shocks in my 2014 RAM 1500 4X4 front struts. This tool made the job so easy. I have used cheaper style spring compressors in the past. These are much stronger and safer to use. The bracket that keeps them in place is a nice feature. I used a cordless 18V impact wrench, and the springs compressed quickly, with no effort at all.

Arrived quicker then advertised. No instructions in package although not hard to figure out. I quite liked the jaws top and bottom as well as the adjustable safeguard. I liked that there were really four jaws. Two on the upper part and two on the lower part plus a screw down lock on each arm to stop anything from moving. Safety first. I would have liked shorter pieces as the arms were kind of long. Perhaps someone can invent this but with the adjustable part being in the center facing out and having the arms shorten more as they tighten. That would have given me much more room. Not a knock on this product though.
