This Hakama was very good quality. I thought this was much cheaper than you actually purchase from Martial Arts Studio. It reminded me the exactly same hakama I have seen in Japan.

I love this type of fabric because it holds the pleats so well. I joke that, after practice, I can toss it up in the air and it will float gracefully to the mat, already folded and knotted, even after 3 years of regular use (twice a week). It's also fairly lightweight, so feels less of a drag in the summer. That said, it doesn't have the weight and flow of a traditional cotton one, if that's what you are after. For Aikido practice, I did have to remove the plastic tab at the back and sew in my own strap to tuck it into my belt. Rolling around on the mat caused the plastic tab to come un-tucked and jab me in the spine, but that's just because this isn't designed as an Aikido-specific hakama, a choice I knew I was making, because I like the look of a stiff, upright koshi. It did take a handful of washes before I stopped seeing a gray tinge in the wash-water from the dye, but it never bled or stained anything during use and now the wash-water runs clear and it's retained it's sharp black with no real fading, even at the knees. Also, oddly, when it arrived, the crotch wasn't properly sewn and it developed a gap within a couple of days that I had to re-sew by hand. No big deal, but shows it's not perfect quality and may not last as long as some. The sizing worked out perfectly for me. Couldn't have asked for a better piece at this price!

Great for the price! This wears and looks like my expensive $200+ hakama. Perfect for training and everyday dojo practice. They are missing some of the little things that an expensive version may have, the little loops hidden inside that allows one to hang the hakama on a coat hanger, for example, but those are minor details. This is a nice hakama over all and added bonus the pleates stay nice and crisps all practice long. I will buy again for sure and have already recommended them to others in the dojo.

I bought a size 29 because i am 6'2" and 250lbs. I generally have to buy the largest hakama i can find and have it shortened to my height by a tailor. This one fits fine and is fine for kenjutsu practice, but it is made for someone with much smaller hips so the pleats don't lay flat when i stand up straight the way they ought to. If you are thin, this is a great hakama for you. Very durable, reinforced stitching, plenty of mobility for the demanding movements of kenjutsu. It just doesn't LOOK as nice as it could on me because of how wide my hips are. Highly recommended for small or average size people, but even the largest sizes are cut too slender to hang properly on men with thick frames - otherwise i'd give 5 stars.

This is the best hakama you can buy for the money. It is very good looking and well made. Not too expensive so that you mind using it for actual sparring. I have ordered other brands before and they were okay. Still. this is a great one. It fits perfectly and has better quality than other brands in this price range ($50-$60).It has good ties for the waist and I use it for my ninja class. (Yes I study ninjitsu) Great for hiding your feet in a sword duel, looks very professional, and is super comfortable. Some people complained about the smell? Didn't have a problem at all. Machine wash cold and drip dry. You will have to iron it but the folds are well done. Also, order at least one size large to account for shrinking. at 5,9 190lbs, I got a size 27 and it fits great.

Very good value and a purchase I am happy with. I bought this for practicing Aikido and it works well so far. I am about 5' 10" and bought the size 28. Sizing chart is correct - if anything it is a hair (just a hair) long on me but you vary depending on how much you tuck into your belt.I will go through the minor downside first. All other reviews are correct in that there is a noticeable odor from the product when it arrives. I assume this is due to the fabric dye. This is not pre-washed so I highly recommend letting it soak in cold water for a few hours and rinsing first. Then wash it in a machine for the first time alone. There was quite a bit of dye that came out in the soak. After that, all was fine.Everything else was great! Product is high quality and the material is outstanding. It is a synthetic material but does not feel like it. It actually has more of a cotton feel (than say an UnderArmor garment). I like the fact that it is synthetic as I think it will hold for quite awhile. The hakama is clearly well made. I am glad I listened to the other reviews as I would have expected to pay $100 or more for this. Getting it for under $50 (including shipping) is a great deal. I was a little reluctant to buy this online without seeing it first. However - there was no local store I could use - so I am very satisfied with the result. Glad I listened to the reviews here and wanted to add mine as a result. One other note - I went to a tailor afterwards and had the seams of the pleats stitched. The cost was minor and it keeps the pleats looking crisp and sharp. I recommend that but not necessary - I just didn't feel like frequently ironing the product.

For a lightweight hakama, this is a good beginner's purchase. It hangs well, and the pleats are nice and sharp. Unfortunately for me, my lower body build is stocky, and my gi is a a very heavy weight gi, so the pleats don't lay quite right on me. Nonetheless, this will make a good summer hakama, and the length is perfect for me, which is uncommon for someone of a shorter stature. All in all, I am not unhappy with my purchase.
