It’s one of those items that you hope you never have to use, but you want to have confidence that it work and this fits the bill

Looks like they have the monopoly on the safety strobe light for SOS, which is required by the US Coast Guard. What’s a captain to do? Had to buy it as there was nothing else in the size that met the Coast Guard requirements. Very expensive for a little cheap item. They need some more competition

"meets coast guard minimums" that's for sure.Just purchased a Firefly Pro SOLAS. I do not understand the weakness of the light.I want a strobe that will run for an hour that can be seen from OUTERSPACE.EVERYONE carries a PLB nowadays, so within an hour I will have a helicopter overhead. We don't need 56 hours of weak light, we need an hour of a strobe so bright that anyone looking anywhere near our location will see it.

ACR makes lots of these safety devices in different configurations so they are not new to this business. It works perfectly no problem. It suggests a little silicone around the battery seal as it comes dry.I saw a negative comment about water getting in and perhaps this step was not followed. By some real stroke of luck my Sterns SAR PFD has a pocket on the shoulder strap that this fits in like it was made just for this unit. It's approved by Canadian standards. It works well and is quite bright. I will buy the auto version in the future, good to have two. There is another brand made by a company that makes survival stuff but when your lifedepends on a piece of emergency equipment I prefer to buy from a specialist.

This strobe is used as an emergency signal tool when out hill walking and is also perfect to keep in the car in case of accidents.

Mine was dead on delivery with the switch completely stuck. There is no excuse for a SOLAS rated survival equipment to be that unreliable. I have a very similar unit in red that is about 10 years old and works just fine. With the exception of the battery door screw that just spins and does no longer open the battery compartment. Hard to find a replacement unit. Must all be made in China now. This particular unit also comes with three modes: "on", "SOS" and "strobe". Completely useless and unnecessary functions for survival situations. Let it just strobe when switched on. Very unlikely to chose the right setting after falling overboard at night into cold water. Hard enough to activate it manually. There is no way I would trust the automatic activation of similar units. Keep looking if you need a serious SOLAS strobe.

Needed a replacement for my firefly from like 15 years ago and its the perfect size and super easy to set up .... I live in a hurricane battered part of the world and this is a critical part of my EDC and Go-Bag!

Order 2 units. One was loose in bubble wrap but "seem" new. The other one in original box. Time will tell if it was a good move to order online.
