About this item

  • The Adjustable Replacement Tool Rest Sharpening Jig will allow you to locate all the basic sharpening positions with your bench grinder (grinder not included). The unique miter slide tool holder design allows the jig to be used more or less as a stone, which easily guides your blades, turning tools and chisels. Solid aluminum construction provides you with a smooth sliding, side to side action when sharpening.
  • The sharpening jig works with most power or hand grinders that has or had a tool rest. It is the ideal replacement for the factory tool rest that comes with many bench grinders. The jig offers much more flexibility in terms of what you can get done than with the standard factory tool rest. The plate is offset for short chisels, such as Japanese or western butt chisels.
  • The Sharpening jig can be used with 6" or 8" bench grinders and on many belt sanders/grinders. It quickly and easily mounts directly to the bench in front of the grinder with a track style base and can be readily folded out of the way for freehand grinding if so desired. It can also be completely removed by loosening the large wing knob and sliding the jig from the track base.
  • Another great feature is that the jig can be adjusted forward and backward for just the right angle. Some aftermarket and expensive tool rests don’t move and adjust in this fashion. This can be very limiting your ability to be accurate with your angles. The platform straddles wheels up to 1" wide. The Jig also now includes internal lock washer for even more stability!
  • The unique ratcheting handles lock the adjustable rest solidly in position and can be moved out of the way after locking to keep from accidentally bumping them. You can easily move the tool rest from one grinder wheel to another or quickly remove it from the bench when not needed for grinding. Some assembly required. The bench top wood mounting screws are included.

Nice product. Easy to set up and use. The extrusions have wall thickness heavier than I expected. Nice surprise. From the pics you can see where I cut the base extrusion in half and drilled additional holes so I can move the guide to either side of the grinder. Still have room to slide in/out for adjustment with the shorter (3”) bases.

I use this rest on a 6-inch bench grinder for HSS lathe tool forming/sharpening and couldn't be happier! The rest is very adjustable and solid. Highly Recommend!

I have seen a lot of people crying about the thing being flimsy and then saying "im returning it and getting the (other named brand they wanted in the first place) what a piece of junk"wrong in my opinion I have no bias and am leaving my honest opinion. It surely isn't as sturdy as a quarter inch of steel, but it for sure is sturdy enough to grind plane blades, chisels, carving chisels, and what not, and this being my first resting thing i see no issues. The little guides they send aren't that great because of the surfaces not rubbing together great but do it free hand.it really is a nice little jig. In my case I did have to drill a couple more screw holes in the base plate because my 6-inch grinder sits really low, but it took care of the problem and am now on to happy days !!if you want the wolverine jig because you watched Rob Cosman use it, by all means go get it, I'm sure it is superior, but almost twice the cost if not more.

Delivered early. Item is as expected. All parts were in the box. Assembly was simple and easy. Adjustments are easy. I have installed on my grinder and used to sharpen 3 paint scrapers, works like a charm, setup adjustments are easy. I recommend this product to others looking to sharpen straight edge tools like scrapers and chisels etc.

Easy to setup and use on existing bench grinder. Great for restoring the 25degree grinding angle to wood chisels and plane iron prior to honing on oil stone at 30 degrees. The guide plate and tool holder allows sideways movement back and forth the grind the wider tools such as plane blades. Well worth the investment. Should have had one years ago.

ok honestly im conflicted. the design is good but could see some improvements. The conflict comes from the fact that the part of the jig that holds your workpiece does not actually lock into the jig. well if it were locked into the jig then youd have to move the entire assembly rather than the work piece and the slide its locked into, which itself is not locked into the jig. In other words my knife falls out of the jig, with the clamp attached to the knife. The part about that and maybe the only part that makes sense, because i do understand this is designed to be a stationary attachment to a bench grinder, and I am using it on my 30 inch tabletop belt sander an its dinky little platform, is that the jig slide needs to do exactly that which is slide evenly and it does slide smoothley in its rails, when it isnt falling out. Does it have to fall out? there could have been just a slight lip over the jig slide that held it in its place and could have just been designed to slide out on either end, instead of fall all over the place. in all honesty i want to like it and i want to use it and I do make the attempt every time I would have need of it, but every time I get irritated at with clumsiness of it after a couple minutes of fighting it and my workpiecw just falling out all hibbety bibbety that I put it away and just free hand it, which defets the purpose. In its defense It should definitely be mounted as per its design, and probably works much better with a bench grinder than a belt sander with a tiny platform and unsecured. Again its hard to criticize it too much as I am not using it as it was designed, but it does not suit my needs as a knife beveling jig on a stationary belt sander.

I have a Veritas blade holder, for which I made (cobbled, actually) a wood stand. Just wasn't up to the task. I bought this rig, which includes base and a blade holder. It does quite well, but the clamping features aren't as solid as I'd like, so I ordered a couple of replacement bolts, going from 1/4"-20 to 1/4"-28. Also ordered longer replacement clamping handles, which I'll have to drill and tap for NF threads. Should get me more solid set-up.I use this to sharpen bench plane blades, which I want to do on both sides (coarse and fine) of my bench grinder, so I made a second base out of hard maple with a short section of T-bolt track I had laying around. Nice. Now I can switch sides with very little adjustment. For $33, this was a really good value, compared to about $80 for a Veritas, which doesn't have an adjustable base.

I use this jig on an 8" Porter Cable bench grinder to hollow grind plane irons. There are three adjustment points on this jig. The base slides towards or away from the grinding wheel. The two arms on the sides pivot towards and away from the grinding wheel and also slide up and/or down along the upright on the base. The top platform pivots on an axis around the clamping bolt. Lot's of ways to adjust this jig. This can be good and bad. With that many adjustments, you can, eventually, get this set to the exact position you need it to be in, but it is difficult to get all of those adjustments 'just right'. It takes quite a bit of trial and error tweaking of each of those adjustments. The tool holder itself is pita to use. It almost takes three hands to get the plane iron set in the holder at the proper length, square to the tool holder, then tighten the two knurled knobs. and they have to be tightened evenly on both sides or you may bend the top of the tool holder. DAMHIKT.But, once you get it set up. it works great. the tool holder fits into a groove in the top platform and keeps the plane iron square to the surface of the grinding wheel, as long as you were able to get the plane iron square in the tool holder. It is nice to have all of the adjustability that this jig provides, but it seems like there should be an easier way.BTW, you will be on your own to figure all of this out. There are virtually no instructions included with this jig to help with setting it up. I have always expected and received more from Peachtree.
