I bought these for my brother as a Christmas gift. He is a keyboard and guitar musician who runs a recording studio. I thought he might have fun with these, as well as have a new instrument in his recording arsenal. On Christmas morning, as we were opening gifts, he was fascinated with them, as was every other family member gathered for the holiday. I steered him toward the video included on the information card. Everyone squeezed around his phone to watch. Soon, everyone was passing around the shakers, giving them a try. My brother was lucky t be able to take his gift home - many a family member wanted to smuggle his gift away!

I saw these on tiktok and thought they looked awesome, especially since i listen to a lot of afrobeat stuff. I still play with these sometimes, but the string is pretty small. I have to work pretty hard to get the motion with my bigger hands. The shaker and the clacking sound are excellent though!

When I first saw videos of the Aslatua(s) being played, I knew I needed a pair. The intricate hand movements seemed so easy to do firsthand, but after some time practicing with them, I've determined that it'll take quite a while before I'm up to the same level as those in the videos. These are handmade, so it becomes difficult to review them when it comes to things like standardization. I ordered a pair, and they are certainly not an identical pair. The string length differs, and the coloration of the actual gourd varies as well. This doesn't present much of a problem. The coloration differences are purely aesthetic, and though the string size does change the function slightly, the operation is still largely the same, and so it's a negligible issue. The build quality is actually staggeringly good, and it feels as though the instrument will last a long time, even after repeated use and practice.Great price, great quality, really awesome sound as well. Go for it!

These have a great sound and don't seem particularly fragile, although in light of other reviews, I practiced mostly above beds and couches. The sound is great and crisp, but when they arrived, they were in two different sizes. I don't know why they would ship two asalatoes together in different sizes, but I had to use a knot to make the big one fit my hand well enough to play.

These shakers are amazing! I have been playing them a lot since they came, and they are very sturdy, and make a very nice sound, loud and clear. They are spectacular quality, and a great price. I would recommend these to anyone interested in world percussion, and these shakers work well in even non-traditional settings. One of the cords may be coming a little loose from the gourd, but it should easily be fixed with a little bit of glue, but I know they're handmade and shipping can be a little rough.
