This is a quality product, it is not lightweight and feels well-made. The instructions are simple and the fan is easy to use. It has a rechargeable battery which is nice but works plugged in also. This fan is very easy to use and works great. Our range hood fan went out recently and this was a cheaper option until we can replace the original hood. This works very well for smoke. I am not sure about capturing oil residue as we are not deep frying, I checked the oil bin and it is empty. This has worked very well for searing and frying with our cast iron pans which can cause a lot of smoke. It is a dream to have this fan, opening a window to clear out smoke is a lot harder than using this fan. I was a little nervous the first time I used it as it says do not use near an open flame, we have a gas stove, I used it anyway but made sure to watch how close I had this to the flame and make sure it was not pulling the flame to the fan. This fan is very easy to use, hold the power button down to turn on, press the button below to start the fan, press up to 3 times to increase the fan, hold the power button down to turn off. I think this is a great idea, a portable range hood, I did not think this existed.I wish I would have known this years ago as this has an additional fabulous function our normal range hood couldn't seem to handle well, my husband has a habit of badly burning toast and smoking up the kitchen. This fan really helps clear the kitchen out, our range hood helped but this is portable and I can take it right to where the smoke is to help get it out! I think this is a great idea and so far is working great.

This is a neat product. I've used it for table-top korean bbq grilling with a propane grill. It worked well for that! I've also tried it with soldering which also worked but it's so big and bulky that it's a little more trouble than it's worth.I'm not sure how long the filters will last, but that will probably vary considerably between applications and what kind of vapors you're sucking into it. Noise level ranges from tolerable to, well, intolerable. The lowest mode is what I'd use it on 90% of the time.Kind of a niche product though, so I'd say it's hard to justify unless you really have a need for it. It might be great for RV users though!

I'm in a rental house and the first thing I noticed when I moved in was the terrible overhead microwave hood range did basically nothing. There's a smoke detector in the kitchen (and none in either of the two adjacent rooms, or I would just remove the battery) that goes off so often that I almost never use the stove and prefer the broiler for my steaks at this point. Even that still sets it off often. So I am thrilled to report that although not PERFECT (I've got some smoke in my eyes as I type this), I'm heating steak tips in a wok and there has been no smoke alarm. The sting of the oxidation of meat and food is absent in my nose. I am so happy with this item!!

I got this as I like in a studio type apartment where my kitchen is almost in center. Smoke detector happens to be close to the stove and I typically would set it off twice a month. Getting this I have not had an issue with the detector at all. It really helps pull the smoke and oil poppings from the skillet. And as far as pouring oil out it's a breeze as it detaches and pours right down the drain and a quick wash and back into the unit. I will say it is a bit louder than I thought, more like a overhead stove fan on high. That surprised me by its size but to not have to get on a stool 2 or 3 times a month to turn off the alarm it is more than worth it. 5 STARS!
