I have this set up to replace an HOB filter that quit working in a 55gal tank that houses 12 zebra danios and 6 black skirt tetras. It works great in this set up. I pull the filters every two weeks and rinse them out well, alternating with 25% water change. Tank is crystal clear and maintaining excellent water parameters with fairly low maintenance.

Put two of these in a 55 gallon tank that had become merky. It was cyrystal clear in about two hours. A month later when I cleaned the tank it took me a good while to rinse, squeeze, rinse, squeeze for about five minutes each to get all the sediment that theses filters captured during their filtering of the water.

I attached the sponge discharge to the intake of my canaister filter. This then acts like a pre-filter and saves me cleaning the Canaister filter more often. i bought two so i could easily swap out one filter for the other when it gets dirty/clogged, alows me to clean the used filter before the next swap. This setup also avoids me using an air pump to suck the water through then out of the sponge filter. I just find the canaister setup more efficent and i get better filtration with the sucking power of the canaister filter.

I use these sponge filters on a tub tank and they do the trick as additional filtration. Definitely see my canister filter working much better after adding these sponges to the tank. The solid base ensure they don't get moved around in the tank by your fish, which is ideal as I keep koi. Also easy to take apart to clean. The additional accessories (i.e. tubing and valves) makes this bundle a good value pack, in comparison to buying each item separately.
