I used blades from some old hand saws that I have. No other drill bits I tried even scratched the saw blade. I put this bit in my drill press and used slow and steady pressure. It easily penetrated the saw blade. I used this bit to enlarge the hole made by a 1/8 carbide bit. I am not able to talk about durability as I only needed four holes.

Had to drill a hole in a hardened bushing. Worked great, no chattering.

I used this bit to drill a number of holes through 0.020" thick hardened 1095 spring steel. It chipped drilling the first hole, but I still managed to get through the rest of the holes I needed. It worked, but I don't have high hopes for longevity. I have since switched to a cobalt bit.

I first bought a twist type carbide drill to make holes in 1095 spring metal, but that bit only lasted 4 holes. This spade type bit cuts holes much better.
