Absolutely does not keep a 30lb 1yr old above the water. This is Not for a 30-50lb child.

This vest is perfect for toddlers. My toddler was afraid of water and she would get knocked over by a small wave. She was afraid until she realized these keep her above the water. She is beginning to learn to swim with these.The quality is good, the fit is good. I have Zero complaints about this item.

I purchased this for my 18 month old. Hes just over 20 pounds. I purchased because the description said it would fit a 20 pound child and it does fit him. However, he isn't heavy enough for it to really work as a flotation device. He just sort of bobbed around and was ripping forward and backward. We will definitely be able to keep it for next summer.
