Product Description

Monitor air quality anywhere in and around your home with Ambient Weather's PM2.5 wireless particulate monitor. The high quality sensor uses laser scattering to radiate suspending particles in the air, then collects scattering light to obtain the curve of scattering light change with time. The microprocessor calculates equivalent particle diameter and the number of particles with different diameter per unit volume. PM2.5 refers to particles that are 2.5 microns or smaller in diameter.

Includes mounting screws, a solar collector, and rechargeable batteries. A USB port allows you to charge the batteries where there is no sunlight.

Notes & Limitations:

Place the sensor in a shaded, well ventilated, non-moisture condensing area. Although the sensor is designed for outdoor use, it is best to mount in a well protected area, such as under an patio or carport.

The solar panel is sensitive to low light, but will still require monthly charging from the USB power port.

With PM2.5 sensors, fog reflects the light, and can result in a higher reading. This is characteristic to the inherent sensor design. The condition occurs during rainy or foggy weather, where Outdoor Temperature – Dew point Temperature ≤ 2ş C (3.6 şF). Thus, when the air is nearly saturated, the data is invalid.

I purchased a PM25 OUTDOOR Air Sensor for the outside of my home. Per the recommendations in the manual and the FAQs, I planned to attach it to the side of my home under my roof eaves to protect it from the harsh weather we have here in Montana. The first PM25 unit I have received could not be mounted on a wall. There were no screw holes in the unit in spite of it coming with mounting screws. Additionally, the disconnect tabs on the side of the unit cannot be accessed if it were to be mounted on the wall and the wires inside prevent the unit from being opened and removed for charging even if it could be mounted. By all accounts, it appears the unit I've received is an interior version of the PM25 and is designed to sit somewhere without being mounted, such as inside a home. I believe they may have been packaged wrong. After calling Ambient for help and receiving no answers to my calls or voicemails, I returned the first PM25 in hopes I was just sent the wrong version that was designed to sit someone on a shelf inside a house. Sadly, the second one was the same. From the pictures, the Outdoor versions likely have mounting holes in the base, have different tabs that are accessible and releasable after the unit is mounted to a wall, have a different charging port location, and can be removed from their base for charging.Per the service card that came with the unit, I called Ambient sales and support numbers 5 times, waited on hold for 5 minutes every time and then was asked to leave a voicemail for a callback each time. None of my voicemails were ever returned so I returned the unit in hopes it would be exchanged for the correct OUTDOOR version. Sadly, the second one I received was the exact same one as the first and cannot be mounted. Most people would have given up long ago but I wanted to help Ambient if there is an inventory or design problem preventing me and others from getting a PM25 that is correct. Others on Amazon are experiencing the same problems I have described above. I attempted to contact Ambient several more times and never got through or received a call back. When submitting a request in writing on their website, the site reports an error and asks you to call them. RIDICULOUS!!!!TO AMBIENT STAFF: You could be a great company if your support wasn't so horrible. I will never buy another product from you again. There is simply no excuse for not having sales and support people answer your phones or having a broken support website. I'll be returning the second PM25 to Amazon and have given up on helping Ambient resolve the issue. It's just not worth any more of my time to go further with such an unresponsive company.Thank you,Michael VailStevensville, MT. USA

It is misleading to say that a device is solar powered and comes with rechargeable batteries only to find out after reading the manual that it will still periodically need re-charging through the USB port.Apparently the solar panel is just not quite big enough to keep the unit functional without the additional boost of a charge every few weeks to once a month. This is even if you place it in direct sunlight, that you are also advised not to do.It comes with four mounting screws... for no reason at all. There is no place on the unit to use those mounting screws unless you want to drill holes in the bottom of the base. The manual mentions the screws as being parts that are shipped but nothing more is said about them. The operations manual advises that you may need to clear the fan periodically but no details are given on how do to that either. To its credit it immediately recognized my weather station and began to send PM2.5 data to the console. I noticed that at first the readings are artificially high (I assume it needs to settle in) but now after 24 hours of operation I am getting consistent readings.

Nicely integrates with existing system and dashboard. Takes frequent measurements, and it's rechargeable. The solar charging seems a little unnecessary, especially since you want to keep it out of direct sunlight and it will need charging anyway. They could remove that and make the unit less expensive, but all in all this is a great addition to my weather station.

I bought this Air Quality monitor in light of the issues with regional wild fires and the smokes impact to where I live. Bad air quality is an issue for me, so having actual information for where I live is important and I'm very happy with the results from the device, which is mounted according to instructions and has been reporting useful data.It is connected to a WS-5000 as one of the two air quality monitors that will handle, one indoor and one outdoor. Information on the display is easy to find and discern (colored block in quality level). The App (iOS in my case) is also clear and easy to use as is the web page data. The ability to see trends over time via the graphs in the apps or web site are great for see changes.Device comes with 2 each 2400 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries, but also a micro USB to USB-A cable for charging. Manual recommends that even with the units solar cell and good placement, there is a need to probably charge monthly.Installation was easy, since the base easily snaps off when the latches are depressed, this makes it easy to mount (has 4 screw holes and comes with screws and anchors), can be mounted in almost any orientation that makes sense--mine is vertical on a wall. Instructions state to place in shaded area with cover, like a porch or car port.A great addition to the weather system from Ambient Weather.

We are doing a home remodeling project and I wanted to monitor the air quality in my bedroom. That’s the only “safe” space in my house at this point. The unit is working flawlessly. Love it! The set up was a little challenging. But I figured it out quickly. You can setup text alerts for monitored particular levels. If the levels are too high, I open the windows or turn on an exhaust fan to let in fresh air.

I've been pleased with this unit both in terms of ease of use and accuracy. It is simple to mount and quickly establishes connection with the console. In checking readings about other such sensors in the area I find this one to be accurate. Ambient Weather provides good sensors and consoles for personal weather stations and supports them after the sale.
