I was afraid this would be hard to get into my clay soil but I just got it good and wet and it was not difficult. I used a screwdriver through the loop on top to get it in good and low at the final part. I am using 2 of them to attach my patio shade at the bottom on windy Oklahoma days. It works great using a bungee cord to attach the shade to the loop on the anchor. I only use as needed (don’t leave the shade down all the time). Also screwed it down as low as possible so I can mow over it plus it’s bright orange so easy to see.

This is definitely a heavy duty ground anchor. Be sure that the clip you have attaching the lead to it is large diameter of the loop where you attach the clip cis larger than most anchors. This item is amazing in that 1) It is bright, orange and easy to see and 2) You can screw it in flush with the ground so that it is not a problem for the mower. I never thought I would be writing a review for an item like this, but it really is a heavy, high-quality item. I used to use the kind that had a plastic handle that would eventually break off from the heat. That won’t be happening with this one.Cons: It helps to wait until the ground is soft to screw this in. Also, use a long screwdriver or small crowbar inside of the loop if this to give it some torque while turning. I am almost 60 and found it hard to turn after a few twists but with a crowbar I could easily screw it down into wet soil. Make sure the latch on your leash is large enough to clip onto this

Extremely hard to screw into the ground... But I live in Las Vegas, so the solid here is thick clay and rocky.

I used this 10 inch spiral anchor to secure a terracotta hose pot (for hiding the garden hose) in my front yard. It serves this purpose very well, especially the way the folding ring lies flat, so it doesn't interfere with the way the hose coils.Pot is now solidly secure. No moving it around when pulling on the hose and no one walking off with it.It was a bit difficult threading it through the drain hole and straight into the ground, but I found that by installing it first without the pot and using a wrench a provide leverage for screwing it in, I was able to remove it and reinstall it much easier in the same hole and still had plenty of hold-down strength.

I've been using one of these for a couple of weeks and am about to order a second one. I have two 100 lb dogs and a yard but no fence (yet). I used to have the anchors with open triangular heads and a ring to clip the tether to. Problems with these: 1) The clip ring wasn't as strong as the stake and a couple of times it either broke off or rusted through. If you clipped to the triangular piece, over time it could bend open and let the clip slip off. 2) Dogs tended to get the cable wrapped around the head. This anchor screws in so that the head is flush to the ground, and the clip ring is thick and heavy metal. Also I don't see how a cable could wrap around it. There's nothing to interfere with a lawn mower, and the orange color makes it easy to spot if you want to remove it. It hasn't budged since I installed it.As others have mentioned you will probably need a stick or rod through the ring to screw it all the way in.

I'm a believer that you can secure basically anything with these and some ratchet straps. I've used them for tarp supports, quick fence post fixes, deer stand security, an extra "hand" in coaxing a tree down the right direction, even something to hold a non-buried pergola in place. I've taken them out of the ground after 2 years, wiped them off, and they look like new. They obviously won't replace posts buried in concrete for foundational support but they can come somewhat close (depending on the application) and they certainly take 1/100th of the effort to put them in place. This is speaking in regards to Alabama clay soil. Obviously these wouldn't do too much in sand or consistently saturated soil. They may not be the prettiest or most professional solution for most projects but they are the easiest and fastest and they can offer a lot more support than it seems they should for 10 bucks and 3 minutes of work.

Overview: I purchased these after coming home from vacation and finding that my tree had fallen over and was literally laying on the sidewalk/street. I was half tempted to rip it out and plant a new one. But after doing some research, I had decided to try using mounts to stabilize the tree in an upright position. I bought two and they work great. My only regret is not buying the longer ones. But I wanted to save money.Pros: The spiral design makes it easier to mount into the ground and provides for a stronger hold. They have withstood strong winds and monsoon season rains.Cons: These may not hold in softer soils. I would recommend getting the longest ones possible, if you can.As a side note, I used bailing wire from Home Depot to connect these mounts to the tree. I have attached a couple photos to show what I did. You will see that I threaded the wire through a dripper irrigation tube (to protect the tree). The thicker black wire is actually electrical wiring from the dripper system i put in. I decided to put those at the top end there so I could easily re-adjust the tension as the tree moved back in to place. To get the tree standing back up after falling over in the first place, I used "Tie Down Straps", from the mount to the tree, to cinch it back up. Once standing, I attached the bailing wire as pictured and then removed the straps. There may be a better way to do this, but I like to MacGyver things with materials I have on hand.
