I like the look. But its quite small. I put a combo of olive oil and canola in it. It leaked. So I cleaned it thoroughly and applied two coats of marine varnish. It still leaks. It may be because when you put more than a tablespoon or so of oil in it, it leaks out of the spout that the wick emerges from. But one table spoon of oil would burn up very quickly. Also, using the combo of oil I chose, even with just a stub of the wick outside the vessel, creates a tall flame with black smoke coming off the tip of the flame. At first I decided not to worry about that...BUT I WISH I HAD! I ended up with a coating of greasy black soot all over EVERYTHING in my apartment--literally EVERY surface. I am having to scrub everything down with an ammonia /soap solution. And I am going to have to wash all my, curtains, slip covers and throws in the same. Even my walls are needing to be scrubbed now. I might experiment with using a different oil--maybe pure olive oil, or parafin. I really love the design and the fact that it is a replica of an ancient lamp. It goes perfectly with my replica of the 38,000 year old Venus of Willendorf.

This is a beautiful authentic lamp. I had a trip planned to Israel in March of 2020 but it was cancelled due to the “pandemic”. I bought this lamp as a keepsake of a trip not taken. The only negative is that when I added the oil , it seeped through the clay and made lamp sticky. I ended up purchasing another and will keep it dry .

This is a cute little lamp. I used it to teach a lesson on the ten virgins parable. This lamp is not glazed and therefore, the oil seeps into the clay. I put some lamp oil into the vessel the night before the lesson. When I lit the wick, very soon the whole lamp was in flames and it was not easy to put the flame out. Needless to say, the students thought it was cool.

We read reviews about sealing with beeswax, so we did that before use. They were for a sermon illusion several times at camp and they worked well. No leaking after sealed, just spilled if tipped, go figure. The wicks that came with were great however it was wilderness camp and the mice loved them to, so they disappeared each morning. We bought extra wicks which were used then. We used olive oil which worked great.

Very nice replica ancient lamp, Naturally it leaches oil because it is not glazed. We put ours a saucer.
