I purchased this same filter in January for a different tank at the price of $7.22. I purchased this same model at the price of f $9.99. However, the product is great for functionality, noise level, thickness, appearance ( like the older model internal filters), and durability. I gave a 4 rating due to the price hike. Be aware, to change media (not frequently I hope) you should purchase separately in bulk. It actually is a good filtration system.

I really like this little filter even though I was doubtful at first that it would be effective. It's easy to clean, holds lots of good bacteria with the media and sponges included, and the tank water is clear. What else could you need? Well worth the money if you just want a little tank (mine is a 5 gallon) that works much like it's larger counterparts.

I was having an issue with nitrates in a 55 gallon tank nearly filled to capacity. I purchased the large filter to use in addition to my hang on back filter, it was easy to set up, it's quiet, and it works well. Three weeks in and the sponges on both levels were pretty dirty from filtering out the waste. If you're on the fence about purchasing the filter - go for it, you won't regret it.

My old filter was too strong for my betta and I was looking for something calmer. I’ve had this for several months now and it’s worked great so far. My betta loves to swim around it and has no issue with the flow. It’s easy to clean, quiet, and I like how it looks. I’d definitely recommend it, especially for the price. :)

Had to heat a small metal pin and poke out the air stone hole but other than that works as intended. Baby frogs enjoy the new waterfall. Water is nice and clear. Also provides for a great standing dock in the water.

I bought the small one for an additional filter for my 5 gallon tank. It does tip some like others have said but once it's in place and thoroughly soaked with water, it stays put. (The suction cups for the air hose help). The small one didn't come with the tube, but I was able to use it without it. The large one sticks up out of the water in my 5 gallon, so I sawed about an inch of the tube off and now it fits perfectly. You can see when it gets dirty, it does a great job especially for the price. I dont know how this is as a stand alone filter (probably fine) but as an additional one I couldn't be happier.

So, I didn't know much about filters powered by air pumps, but wanted a second filter that could sit at the bottom corner of my relatively deep tank. I did not get any suction through the bottom compartment. The bottom corner ended up as a place to hide debris. When I took it out to clean (using a plastic bag), there was a lot of debris just sitting there. No suction. Lifting it up just sent the debris all over. The filter media I chose and the sponges were not dirty compared to those in the top compartment. In fact, they barely seemed used. The thing is, the tube carrying the air through the filter only goes through the top portion. They just attach a second compartment with no center tube. Seems like the strainer (I think that's what you call the tube through the center of the filter) should go through the entire piece for effective suction. There are just things about this design that make little sense. Maybe I'm wrong, but the results were disappointing. However, it was inexpensive. I'm currently using only the top compartment for a quarantine tank, and I'm looking for something with a better design for my main tank. All this being said, it worked better than nothing at all.

i bought this filter for my betta fish, sully. i totally baby & spoil him, as i have bought him over 5 different filters before i bought this one for him. bettas love low flow tanks, and so i’ve bought multiple filters, all that said they worked for bettas and were low flow, but they weren’t, and he was obviously unhappy. so, i bought this filter, as i’ve heard plenty of good reviews on this filter, and others like it. i was a little nervous when i first put it in his tank, as the bubbles that the filter produced did create a little movement in his water. but, i put him in the tank anyways to see how he liked it, and it’s honestly one of the best filters i’ve had yet. it looks like there’s a lot of movement in the tank, but it’s actually the opposite. the only time there is a lot of flow is when he swims up to the actual filter bubbles. he looks sooooo much happier, and the tank is surprisingly clean! it was super cloudy before the filter and it’s crystal clear now, and it only took about a day for the tank to clear up after the filter was put in. sully also has a snail in the tank with him, and the snail loves this filter too, for some odd reason! the filter doesn’t take up a lot of space, is pretty quiet, and is very cheap! i totally love it, and will probably stick to this filter for as long as i can! :)
