I purchased the AQUASTRONG Sand Filter Pump primarily to simplify the task of maintaining my above ground pool. This Bad Boy took a whopping 20 or 25 minutes to fully assemble.I opted to try this new-fangled filter media that consists of a big bag of what looks like snowball sized cotton balls, much like an aquarium filter. I dumped them in the big tank, and thanks to the lightweight alternative to play sand, I could carry the whole filter without breaking a sweat!The kit is well made, everything fits well, and they do gove you a couple sets of connectors, so don't freak out if you have a few extra. It all depends on What your particular pool uses for hoses.The filter that came with My 24' x 12' Intex pool was essentially a coffee can sized corrugated filter, and a little anemic pump which moved far less water that the amount of noise it made would suggest. It would work well for about 2 days, then I'd have to empty all of the beetles, spiders, acorns, and leaves out of it. It was just too small for this size pool. (not to mention the fact that those filters cost about $14 each, and last a week at best.This filter is a 2/3 H.P. motor / pump, with a large filter tank, strainer, and backwash system.It's a scaled down version of what you'd get with an expensive professionally installed pool.I think it's still a tad under the recommended size for My pool capacity, but it's close enough!I've made due with those crummy filters for 3 years, so this is by all accounts going to be a "night and day" difference. I'm also trying a salt water system this year, so while no pool is "maintenance free", the prospect of not having to go out and do a pool water drop test every couple days to get My chemicals right kind of excites me!This looks to be an excellent solution for a medium to large easy set pool. I'll let you know how it's going come mid-summer.

I ordered this AQUASTRONG 14in Sand Filter Pump for Above Ground Pool for my 15' above-ground Intex pool. The first two summers I got by with the mediocre pump that came with the pool, but I got tired of changing cartridges every other day, and wanted to upgrade my filtration.This pump is definitely an upgrade! The circulation in my pool is very much improved now with this AQUASTRONG pump. I am using it with the 2.5 lbs of filter balls instead of sand and so far, it's been working flawlessly.Assembling the pump was a bit of a thing, mostly because the instructions weren't terribly straightforward, and also because the instructions are combined for 3 different versions of pumps. Once I figured that out, I was able to make steady progress.The other thing, and the reason I'm subtracting what would otherwise be a solid 5 star product, is that the pump settings are labeled wrong on the pump. This initially led to some confusion, and made me think something wasn't working right. When I checked my pump against the diagram in the pump manual, sure enough, the position settings didn't match up to what was on the pump. (See my pictures - I used my label maker and printed the correct labels and stuck them on the pump to avoid any future confusion!)Overall, this is a nice pump and it's definitely been an upgrade for my pool!

I have a 12ft round Intex pool that I’ve used for the past 2 yrs. I hate the filters that come with these pools, expensive and they don’t clean as good as they should. I came across this pool pump/sand filter and it worked excellent! I was surprised that it was simple to put together. The water circulation was such that I didn’t see dead bugs or grass in the pool after the kids were done playing in it. The flow to clean the water is high, so the water stayed consistently clear, I had to use little chemicals as it did a fantastic job at cleaning. My husband thought I was a bit nuts to get this for our pool size, however the savings on maintenance is excellent. When my kids were done swimming, I took it over to a neighbor that had the filter style setup on their 18ft. We unhooked his setup and added this sand filter instead. We both were amazed at how clean the water was and how efficiently it worked. It was nice to see it work on 2 different sizes and actually do what it is intended to do, without any additional work! When his kids were done using their pool, we disconnected, and I put it in storage for next year. Best part is – I can get a bigger pool and know that it’ll be easy to maintain thanks this sand filter pump!
