I bought this pump separately from my pool. It works amazing! It's really strong and I only have to run it a few hrs a day as it filters my whole pool quickly. We have been using the media balls with it. It works great. I actually bought 2 of these so I'd have a backup incase the other tore up, but this one is just fine. I'm thinking about hard plumbing the pump though instead of the hose. The guards and everything works great. I've had no complaints thus far and I've been using it all summer. I recommend this filter.

This pool pump/sand filter has been a game changer for our above ground pool! It circulates the chemicals so well that I actually saved money this year on chemicals because they stay balanced and last so much longer with a high quality pool pump and filter! We have an 18’ round, above ground pool and we will never go back to paper filter pool pumps. This sand filter/pool pump is the way to go! The water circulation is outstanding. It was super easy to set up and get running. Absolutely love this pool pump and sand filter.

I have had this pump in place for a couple months now, and am happy to report that I wish I had this pump two years ago when I first put in our pool. The pool is just ALWAYS clean now, and I've had no spikes of anything in my water tests at all. Before this pump, I could suddenly get spikes in the water test that I'd have to shock and try to resolve with ph altering chemicals etc. The pool has been very, very stable this year and I now just watch for subtle trends in the water tests. The pump itself has an incorrect label- the instruction manual is correct, so I made new labels myself. That's a huge oversight and one would think that any company making such a blunder would be using amazon to track who bought one and mail them a notice proactively- at least that's what I would do if I made such a blunder. I feel bad for the people who haven't figured out their pump is labeled incorrectly when trying to operate the valve.Installation was easy- and I added several new valves as well as a new skimmer as part of the upgrade. All the parts were inexpensive and it all works perfectly now.I highly recommend this setup- it simply works, and works SO much better than the cheap stuff that comes with the pool.

Got this in March & had to wait until late June to set it up. It comes in pieces because different pools require different applications. It was easy to set up. Sand is not included. We bought our own. It’s been running like a dream since. No issues whatsoever so far. It has great suction and output as far as I can tell. The last pump we had was very weak compared to this. The timer is easy and handy. The controls are easy to read. It’s just an all around great pool pump. I’ll update at the end of pool season if any issues arise.

The thing that stands out is that it's got the built-in timer. So you get the filter, and a pump with a timer. It's quite a deal, even if it's a generic brand. However, I've used Aquastrong pumps before, and I'm pretty impressed with them. I haven't had any problems, and they're quiet. Don't expect the longevity of a name brand, but overall this is really a great value for a filter plus pump.I think the timer is the way to go. I know that variable pumps are all the rage right now, even required in some areas. But it turns out in many cases they don't work. When they are in their low speeds, they do not provide enough force to push the water around, and all they're doing is skimming the water off the top. That means it's just wasting electricity - it's running but not actually doing anything. So they're more expensive up front, they break down faster because of the variable motor and because they're working 24 hours, they're more expensive to maintain, and in the end you may end up with an algae-filled pool and (which means more chemicals and more expenses). I'm also against the dual speed pumps for the same reason. For me, the best way to go is a pump with a built-in timer, and run it for 12 hours a day. We're using this with filter balls instead of sand, on a small pool. And this is light enough to move around if we want to use it for something else.It only requires 2.5 pounds of filter balls. The only downside to filter balls is that you have to open it up and rinse out the balls periodically (backwashing doesn't always work). And, you always lose one or two balls per month, they get too dirty to clean. One way to avoid this is to use a filter sock over your basket, or even put some filter balls inside your basket to preserve your pump. This works whether using sand or filter balls. The 6-way valve is nice. I've seen cheaper generic models like this with just 3 way valves - basically, on, off, and backwash. It's rated up to 12,000 gallons, but there's no minimum - it could work with a spa or hot tub as well. The 2/3 HP motor is plenty strong for anything in that range, though some hot tubs use stronger specialized pumps for jet pressure.
