I prefer the design idea that gives you a doorbell unit with good audio that is paired with a separate camera that can be aimed properly so you're not getting alerts from ambient street and sidewalk traffic. Seems to perform well, is fast through system alerts and response, and has good audio. It was also very easy to mount and connect with my existing mechanical doorbell. Some video latency and "pixilating" on the alert image, but I think that's more due to our phone network than the Arlo system because the images we receive from other alerts are excellent HD quality.

I've read a few negative reviews about the arlo audio doorbell, and I honestly think they are missing the whole point. No this is not a video doorbell. It says that everywhere. I had an old fashioned setup already and arlo cameras all over the house, so this little doorbell was just what I needed. It performed as advertised perfectly, and I couldn't be happier. Yes the speaker is a little on the weak side, but if you live on a quiet street like I do, this shouldn't be an issue. I absolutely love how this doorbell calls my phone like I'm receiving a phone call which makes it very easy to use. When I answer I see who's at the door instantly and can leave a pre-recorded message which is a nice touch. If I didn't already have an old fashioned doorbell I would probably opt for the video version, but if you already have the wires in your walls this is the perfect accessory that integrate seamlessly with arlos cameras. I couldn't be happier.

Speaker volume is inaudible at maximum setting. Motion detection constantly alerts for no reason. No response for a solution from Arlo. Waste of money.

I have my Arlo Doorbell paired with a camera at my front gate. It is about 100 feet away from from the base station and seems to be at the edge of the range of the system (it is supposed to be 300ft line of sight). The issue I’ve had with the range is more of a concern with the entire system than specifically with the camera though. After getting the doorbell set up everything seems to work fine and the audio is clear. There is a short delay of a few seconds in the time it takes for someone to push the button to when your phone with the app rings. This is probably due to the system connecting through the home network to whatever cellular network your device is on, but having that convenience is an acceptable trade off for the delay. The biggest con I have with this is the fact that Arlo only offers a replacement of stolen doorbells to people who have a subscription. Ring doorbell seems to offer this to anyone who buys their device. I can understand not providing that type of loss coverage for the cameras since you can put them in concealed or out of reach locations. But a doorbell has to be readily presented to anyone coming to your front door. So anyone can steal this one in a matter of a few seconds with just a small screw driver. If they offered that coverage this would have five stars. There are several other differences with this one and the Ring, and I say differences instead of disadvantages because it depends on your situation and your needs. The biggest is there is no camera on the Arlo doorbell. Some might see this as a con but I actually like this because it presents a level of ambiguity about what is happening and what camera is recording when someone pushes the button. If you already have an Arlo system I highly recommend this doorbell. If not, I would look at this compared to the Ring doorbell and just figure out which system suits your situation best. If you can afford it, I would also recommend looking into a professionally installed and managed system. But Arlo and Ring are the cheapest I would put on my network. Anything less and the security vulnerabilities start increasing.
