Coworker has a Cornwell kit I was borrowing when I came across ratcheting calipers but I finally spent the couple bucks to get this for myself. Not sure if Cornwell rebrands this kit but it's almost identical. Been working great for me the couple times it's come out of the box so far!

Quality isn’t the greatest, but better than most. Tool is worth the price. Nice that this unit has a magnet on it to hold the adapter plates in place. My main gripe is that you have to continuously keep winding the holding nut out while winding the t handle in. That being said almost every tool I’ve used like this does the same thing.

Bought this for doing VW rear brakes. Worked very well. I have done a few family and friends cars and this tool is holding up well. Good quality.

Great item. Very happy with it to help with changing breaks and servicing calibre. Would recommend it to others. Shipping was fast and efficient :)

works great, used it on both my vehicals. 2001 F-250sd and 2006 VW Golf.a cross referance chart showing what adapture to use for what vehical would make it much easyier to use. Then it would earn 5 stars

Nicely Packaged, oiled for anti-rust.Has all the variety I can think of for many types of calipers.Worked very smooth with my VW Passat. Quality is very good. The tool has a magnet to hold the different ends in place while you load it on the caliper. I was impressed.

Rated a 5 because even though I have not used the product it looks to be good quality for half the price of others. This review is basically a first impressions review since this kit doesn't work on my E90 BMW, but bought it to keep in my garage in case I have to change my parent's brakes or if I purchase a car in the future that will require it.Some impressions from previous reviews are the case is junk, broken/rusty parts, lack of instructions, and the layout in the case does not match the pics.THE CASE - The case I received is nothing great, but you're not purchasing this because you need a beefy, sturdy case. It's what's in the case that really matters. The case I received holds the parts securely and they are not loose/moving around. It basically does it's job and stays closed.THE PARTS - The parts I received were covered in oil and therefore not rusty. They also were NOT broken. Although, I assume broken parts are probably a common issue and paperwork in the kit states to contact the manufacturer directly and they will replace them within a one year period. If I had to be anal, I would say 2 of the 3 adapters were 95% perfect because one of the 2 small cylinders that protrude from the adapters could have been hammered in a millimeter more so that they would be flush with the back. But, that's being anal and they will do the job as is.INSTRUCTIONS - There are none. But, they have a list of which adapter fits what car. If you need instructions, then you shouldn't be changing your brakes and instead hire your 5 year old to do it for you. If you don't have a 5 year old, i guess you're screwed and need an indy shop.CASE LAYOUT - It's slightly different and there are 5 adapters on the lid of the case... WHO CARES!! :)For the $37 I spent on this kit i'm very happy with it and look forward to using it. If I ever do use it, i'll post a follow-up review.

*** DISCLAIMER & WARNING: USING THIS TOOL THE WAY I DID IS AT YOUR OWN RISK ****** ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION (AND ANY OTHER PROTECTION YOU CAN THINK OF, INCLUDING GLOVES) ***I'm providing much more detail than most reviewers to give a better sense of what it's like to use the tool. Obviously, I ended up torqueing the tool much more than intended by the manufacturer, risking tool breakage and consequential damage to person and property, but, desperate people do desperate things.Managed to retract the piston on my 1999 Taurus, but was slow, almost imperceptible going at first. (Note: figured out early on that opening the brake fluid bleeder is highly advisable; used the open end of a combination wrench in the hole of the caliper to provide counter torque.) Biggest problem with this tool is the bar at the top; its meant to be turned by hand, but no way that was going to work. The way I got things going was to take advantage of the hex shape at the top of the housing; tighten it up with a wrench (leftie-tightie in this case), forcing the piston in a hair, then turning the housing the other way, causing the piston to turn a hair (the slight rotation can be seen by the bar at the top). ***Here comes the excessive torque part.*** Eventually things loosened up enough that could use the box end of a combination wrench at the base of the bar to provide enough leverage to turn the cylinder. That was also enough force to bend the bar, so watched out for that (didn't want to snap it). Possibly enough force to snap the top of the turn screw also (assumed there was no way to look out for that (always wear eye protection!)). The housing would become unsnug as this went on; it needed to be retightened once in a while (apparently the threading isn't an exact match to the piston movement). Once done, the bar was bent more than I thought, bent it back into roughly square by pressing it down against the concrete floor. At that point, noticed that the adapter I'd used wasn't really centered on the tool, seems to have had its holes stamped significantly offcenter, which is annoying, but didn't matter functionally. If the bar ever goes, I'll replace it with something stiffer, or maybe some kind of hex cap that I could put a wrench on. I also noticed that the screw threads on this thing also seemed worse for wear from all the pressure, as in, the black finish that covers all of this tools wore off, leaving shiny thread (but didn't strip). Bottom line: got the job done: hope to see tougher alternatives for reasonable prices in the future. Also, only took a few days for it to be delivered with free Amazon shipping (a major consideration when your car is incapacitated (I'd ordered a different kit a couple weeks ago that STILL hasn't arrived)).

Well made adapter. Worked perfect on my '11 VW Routan. This adapter kit is cheaper than the single tool from VW. Well done Astro. Great addition to my tools.

I purchased this tool set to wind back some front calipers (that aren't keyed). The tool is easy to use and and beats the heck out of using a block of wood and a c-clamp. The two pistons have a "L" and "R" stamped on them so you know which one to use for keyed operations. The screws move easily so it's very easy to turn. Just remember to check your brake fluid level before you start turning. I didn't (got too exited about the tool) and ended with brake fluid all over my shop floor.I did not end up using this item for my back brakes yet. But i have no doubt it will work and work well. There are plenty of different keyed ends to fit all sorts of cars. This tool came with a small piece of paper that listed all the vehicles it works on. I will post that later when i'm home. The only two negatives i have:1) The keyed fittings are magnetic, which is nice, but the magnets aren't extremely powerful. They kept falling off at random times, but it's not a big deal.2) Overall the box it comes with is ok enough. Hard molded plastic. But the two clips that hold it shut seem like they could fall off if flexed too much. Hasn't happened to mine yet, so i'm guessing on this - so take that for what it's worth. Not a big enough deal to take off any stars.
