if you have a camera attached to your telescope this is a must have. Makes targetting and focusing easier for astro photography.

I have been trying to take amateur astronomy photos for the last year with our new telescope and struggling with focus and lining up the shot. Using the direct camera viewfinder or lcd was not ideal. Having the ability to look through the telescope eyepieces directly without removing it and inserting the camera is amazing. It is quick to flip the mirror down to take a shot and then flip back to make adjustments through the eyepiece again. I was impressed with the quality of this product and can’t wait to use it more this summer.

The mirror box has 3 holes- one to attach to the 'scope visual back, one for the eyepiece and one for the camera. Each holes is 1 5/8" (42mm) diameter, lined with a female thread. The scope hole has a fixed-length adaptor to a standard 1 1/4" male end (outside smooth, threaded inside) which fits into a standard female visual back orifice. The eyepiece hole has similar but adjustable length adaptor to take the eyepiece. But no adaptor is provided for the camera hole, so a standard (eg Zwo) astronomical camera with a 1 1/4 " fitting won't fit (hole too wide). It should come with a third, adjustable, and preferably focusable, length, adaptor for the camera. So I cannot use it until I can procure another adaptor. It's particularly puzzling because the whole point of this flip mirror is to eliminate the need to constantly swap between one's 1 1/4 " eyepiece and one's 1 1/4" camera - so it contradicts itself.UPDATE: I got an adaptor so I can use -still not well. My unit didn't come with the promised "helical focusser" - perhaps that is an extra order? Also, when a star is centered in the eyepiece (mirror flipped ) it's not centered in the camera (mirror unflipped). Probably the mirror isn't aligned at exactly 45 degrees.Nevertheless it's a very useful gadget - avoids constant fumbling between eyepiece and camera.

I bought this to use with my refractor so I could both observe and photograph the recent transit of Mercury. I thought the attachment to the telescope focuser was insecure using the supplied 1 1/4 inch nose piece, so I changed it to a 2 inch, and now it is solid. (I knocked my rating down one star because of this.) The eyepiece views with a low power eyepiece were just fine. The mirror moves easily so you can move it out of the way without disturbing anything. Very nice product.

I have three Astromania Flip Mirrors, each one set up for a different camera. They are very handy for centering objects in the cameras, saving lots of effort if I didn't have them. The reason I have a separate flip mirror for each camera is to make focusing the flip eyepiece a one-time event done after the camera is well focused. Once that is done, the flip mirror is ready to go for future uses.

This item is the perfect compliment to my C6 setup. No5 heavy and very well constructed. The item is complete with no missing parts. Functional straight out of the box!! Jupiter is my target this season, and my focus is spot on. Very little tweaking and it was go time!
