Before I installed this seal I did a trial fit on the driveshaft input shaft and it seemed a bit loose. Well, my initial impression was right. It leaks a very small amount of transmission fluid and I will have to replace it again. I'll buy a Ford part next!

I noticed that my 2004 Ford Ranger XLT's transmission would slip out of gear while driving up any incline greater than 20 degrees! I first checked the transmission fluid with the engine running and in neutral (emergency brake ON). It showed fluid well below the knurled mark. What was perplexing is there was no sign of leakage on the driveway were I park the truck. Must have been intermittent or very slow (or both). I did notice the old seal had signs of being wet with fluid. So going with my gut instincts I assumed it needed a new seal. This one was an exact match for my truck. I considered making the repair myself , but thought better and brought it to my local mechanic. He is that rare type that is honest and willing to work with you. In my case I brought the new seal to him and my truck was ready the next day! All for under $100! That was 3 years ago and the trucks transmission has been working perfect with no issues. Cost of new seal was very reasonable and it arrived in good time.
