I love this pump! It empties my kayak in a tenth of the time it takes me to hand pump it out after a wet exit and training. Just put the pump down in the cockpit, put the hose over the side, and put your spray skirt back on, and it pumps while you're protected from the waves. The small size fits in my round hatch so it's easy to reach and always available. Battery is very long lasting, with more than a dozen uses and still going.

I love this little pump. However it was hell getting it open for the batteries. I struggled with it for 2 days. I am not strong so that had something to do with it. Also, the little tabs that hook to the battery are very fragile so be careful with them. there is a good Youtube video for opening and placing the batteries. After all of that it worked like a charm. I had one before that functioned for years, but was lost in a move.

Bought it and didn't use it for quite a long time. When I need it worked well for 2-3 hours and then the stopped working. I thought it was the batteries, change it and it didn't work. I thought it was the motor but I tried to change the start-stop button and it worked... How can they sell a product with such low quality/cheap parcels - a start and stop button that breaks after a few strokes?! Unbelievable but true.

I bought this for my son to play with in the bath so I'm putting a lot of hours on it. Have had no issues yet, no water inside. Don't expect this to lift any water too high, it doesn't build too much pressure but if your just transferring water 3-4' it works well. The internals are very simple, a 3 D-Cell battery pack, a switch and a DC motor. The main body feels solid and seem well built. My only complaints are that the plastic lid tabs that lock it in place are a bit flimsy and the screws holding the bottom strainer on are threaded into plastic. I would put a little grease on the seal as it's very difficult to turn the top to get at the batter compartment with the seal dry.I've run it so far for about 7-8 hours on a single set of D batteries and they are still fairly strong. Since it's getting used as a toy I'll be picking up some rechargeable ones as I don't need it at full power.

Attwood, you should be ashamed! We use this in our inflatable dinghy after torrents of rain, and I must say, the quality and design of this product has gone steadily downhill. Unfortunately, you seem to have a monopoly on this market segment, so perhaps no-one cares in-house? Here's the problems. As an avid boater on. the Hudson for 15+ years, I know a thing or two about product design and things being user friendly. One, the unit is all but impossible to open by hand in order to install the batteries. In your instructions, you say and illustrate to rock the top from side to side. Really? It doesn't ROCK according to your illustrations and instructions. You have to get very creative and wind up Mc-ivering the unit in order to remove the top to install the batteries. Heavy tools needed to open it, at least a half hour wasted being verrry careful not to break the upper plastic! Hey folks, try it! Two, once opened, the battery compartment has almost no room to re-install the plastic battery mount! Three D batteries and almost no room to install the plastic triangular bracket without shorting the wires going to the vibrating pump motor! Three, as stated here often, eventually, the unit leaks where the hose comes into the base of the pump, eventually rusting the inside of the unit, and killing the batteries, switch, and pump. Same goes for the battery connectors which by now have shorted. Seriously? Fire the incompetent idiot that managed to kill this product over time. It used to be reliable many years ago, but no more.

Update: 8 years later (time flies), and this pump (plus a lot of carrying buckets back and forth) mitigated disaster yet again. My main sump pump failed this time causing water to backup in my basement, and this ran like a champ for the better part of 2 hours clearing the water while waiting for an emergency plumber to arrive.I bought this after my Sump Pump discharge line froze over the winter and I struggled with a manual siphon + buckets to empty my window well before the house flooded. A few nights ago the (same) pump burnt out during a rainstorm and I had to enact my 'emergency plan' to clear out the water. This pump worked perfectly. It takes a couple of minutes for it to completely fill a large contractors bucket (5 gallons I think?). I filled up 4 of those before my window well was cleared without any issues. The pump moves the most water when fully submerged, losing speed when the water level gets down to a few inches. The hose that comes attached to this pipe is relatively small, but uses a standard fitting. In my case, I connected it to an old washing machine hose to give it sufficient reach. The pump was sitting at the bottom of my window well, with the hose coming up and through the window, and the extension going down to a bucket on the floor (several feet below).Once the pump gets started in this configuration, it is aided by the siphoning effect. In fact, if you turn the pump off, water will continue flowing, albeit at a significantly slower rate.I can't attest to how this pump might perform if pumping entirely up, versus my simpler case of pumping up a foot and then down.My only complaints about the pump are:- It can be difficult to unscrew the top to install or change the batteries.- There is no battery-charge indicator. I plan on erring on the safe side and put in fresh batteries after each emergency use (and hope I don't need to use it for a long time but remember to check the battery in a few years to ensure it doesn't leak).- The power button would be better situated on top. When submerged and out of view, it can be tricky to find the button by feel.- Given the implicit siphoning action when turned off, it would be nice if a valve was included to stop the water flow (ie: when changing buckets). I will be picking up a cheap valve when I have a chance to keep with the pump.

This is an excellent water pump. Powered by three D cell batteries it is a lot more powerful than I thought it would be. I bought this to manage water exchanges for some fish tanks I have. The product overview indicated it could pump to an elevation of 4 feet and it does this quite easy. It is fast too, my water exchange time was cut down to 1/4 of the time it normally took. It is well build, though I'm not sure if it was designed to be partly or fully submerged. The battery cover is sealed with an o-ring and the push button switch is fully sealed. The hose attached is about 3 feet with a standard hose end for attaching an additional hose or fitting. Small, light weight, easy to use, and powerful. Surprisingly, it looks and feels very well built using high impact plastic - for the price this is a excellent buy.
