Hydrofera Blue is a simple, safe, effective and proven moist wound dressing. It is constructed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sponge complexed with two organic pigments, which provide broad-spectrum bacteriostatic protection. The pigments (Methylene Blue and Gentian Violet) have been used safely in medicine for over 50 years and have proven effective against a variety of microorganisms including MRSA and VRE. Hydrofera Blue has been approved for use on all types of wounds except third degree burns. Hydrofera Blue is intended for use on complex wounds and, in trials, has shown excellent results in treatment of wounds r/t Pyoderma, radiation burns, chemical burns, venous stasis ulcers, yeast infections, folliculitis and infected wounds. It can also be used to provide a safer moist environment for optimum wound healing on non-infected wounds. Hydrofera Blue is highly absorptive. In addition to being bacteriostatic, its open cell structure provides capillary vacuum action to draw excess fluid and exudates from the wound bed. Hydrofera Blue must be moistened with sterile saline or sterile water, squeezed out and secured to the wound bed with an appropriate secondary dressing. When kept moist, Hydrofera Blue is incredibly soft and comfortable for the patient. Other attributes of the dressing include gentile self-debridement of necrotic tissue and odor control through prevention of the growth of odor causing bacteria on the sponge. Dressings should be changed every 1 to 3 days following good wound care practice. In cases of high infection, the dressing may require more frequent change, which will be indicated by the dressing changing color from blue to white. The product referenced on this detail page is sold be 10/Bx.

This item was dry and hard. It is supposed to be soft and gave medicated lubricant on it. I am very disappointed in this product and the fact I cannot get my money back to buy what I need for sever medical issues. I would never recommend this product.

Very happy, originally used them with saline solution, now with iodine. One BIG peeve is they are NOT 4x4, they are 3.5x3.5 inches!

My husband is diabetic and had an open wound on his foot that wouldn’t stop bleeding after minor surgery (because he is on blood thinners). Hydrofera Blue was the first layer (right next to the wound) of the dressing the nurses at the wound care clinic applied. They told me to change the dressing every few days. It not only helped with stopping the bleeding, but it also helped to prevent infection due to its antibacterial properties. I will be keeping a supply of this among my wound dressing supplies from now on. It comes as a large dry sheet that you can cut with sterilized scissors to the size needed. It is then wet thoroughly with sterile saline solution, which causes it to expand to a thin, blue foam; then you apply it to a wound before adding gauze and tape. If you have an open wound, you should see a doctor as soon as possible, but this will help with urgently needed wound care or between doctor visits, if used as the doctor directs. It should never be used instead of getting medical care, but only as directed by your doctor.

I have used this product on heal-resistant wounds and have found it to be one of the best things available. It is made of material that acts as a wick, creating a slight negative pressure environment. Requires moisture to work, so if your wound is dry (no drainage) invest in some hydrogel to use with it.

Nurse used to close my moms tiny opening after G-tube removal from stoma. To use properly your only suppose to cut size to the exact size of the opening, not over lapping onto good skin. I dont think the instructions say to spray a little w/ water or wound cleaner prior to placing on opening or sore. Recommend consulting w/ nurse first.

While this product is expensive it works so good. My husband had a mesh implant in his mid-line after tissue grew under the implant and the doctors were able to remove it they placed hydrofera over the wound to help his body to keep growing the tissue. It's taken 7 months but his stomach almost has skin covering it. I highly recommend this product. Spend the money. Keep it moist, change it when the side touching the tissue is gray.
