I use tally counters on a daily basis counting algae cells on a microscope slide. The one for my lab is starting to slip - when I press the counter button on top the numbers do not always advance or will only advance half a turn. Obviously this is not ideal when I need to calculate the number of cells I have in a large vessel of algae!I specifically purchased this item (and was willing to pay more for it) because the picture shows almost no plastic parts. However, this is not the item I received! The Tally II has a plastic side knob along with a plastic piece that holds the finger loop at the top. The top loop is not a big deal but the side knob is! I have used several brands of counters with the best being Compass made in Japan. (The brand of the one I have now that is slipping is Sportline and is also made in China.) The Compass tally counter was heavy duty with no plastic parts, not even around the face of the numbers. (I would still be using this item if it didn't get reassigned to another lab. Boo.) The Tally II is even lighter weight than the Sportline so I worry about its long term durability. Further, the box the item came in reads Tally I (item #9841000) but the side of the actual items reads Tally II. I count a lot of cells very quickly; I will post back with an update if needed.I give it three stars for now as it seems to be working fine so far. However, I'm truly disappointed in the discrepancy of the photo vs. the reality.Update 8/2016: I have upgraded this to 4 stars because I have been using it daily since purchase and it has worked perfectly each time. It is definitely better than my previous tally counter because my hand does not wear out or become sore as quickly with this item. Still not thrilled that it looked so different than the photo but it seems to be doing it's job and allowing me to do mine!

I like the counter very much the only improvement that I would make is the ability to for example put in $20 and then add the sense rather than doing it one dollar or sent at a time.
