Bought this about a year ago thinking it would make a few knives then cap out.... it's still running strong and I have no complaints. It is great for starter knife makers.

I bought this from a local store, 50% off, can't beat the price. Didn't expect great performance so I wasn't disappointed . the table would not square up. I dressed up the mating surfaces with a file, 5 min. no big deal. As I had read about these small, , high rpm sanders, it was noisy. Some of this is from the high rpm. But MOST of what caused noise/ vibration on this unit was the driving wheel was out of round. Like 1/8 inch out of round on a 4 inch wheel. I'll get back to this in a moment. The good is the idlers are ball bearings not bushings. But given the vibration, they could not be expected to last. Because the driving wheel was plastic , I thought I could true it without to much trouble. I fashioned a rest on the housing with a small 90% angle bracket, vice grips, and using a sharp wood chisile, I was able to true it to maybe 95% of round. Without being able to slow the motor down , this was as good as I could get it . Finished it off with sandpaper, wala! It now is usable. I would not have gone to this trouble if I paid full price, but given the circumstances, and the fact that this size sander accomplishes the mission, I would do it again.I do think most people expect to be able to take an item out of the box, plug it in and have it work perfectly. It seems that setup is becoming a lost art, but it is necessary on all but the most expensive machines . And even then you need to understand how to check the trueness of the machine.
