I use this to lock up my helmet (it’s thin enough to fit thru the holes). Being able to store it in the handlebars is a nice feature as I’m not the best at putting things away in the right place and this eliminates that worry.

This obviously isn’t a serious bike lock. The cable is thin and the housing is aluminum. But… it is always on my bike if needed. I ride trails on an expensive e-MTB and this thing is great when you take a break to explore a bit or stop at the craft brewery. Just long enough to wrap the frame or tire to a post or tree, it gives me the peace of mind to stop checking on my bike every five minutes. Install is easy, function is easy and I don’t have to have a bag strapped to the frame to carry it. The cable is plastic coated so as to not scratch the bike but you do have to watch the lock. Great!

Aluminum is terrible for locks because it is so soft and easy to cut. That's why it's used here instead of steel - it's easy to work and form, making it cheap to make. Basic steel is the minimum requirement, and extra strong and hardened steel is better. The cable may be durable, but the lock body is the weak link.A lock of any kind is something that actually should be heavy, even on a bike. This is so weak that one good jerk and the lock would likely be destroyed. It is somewhat clever to have a lock that tucks away into the handlebar tube.2 stars off for weak material and false description.1 star off for Rando Brandnamian.

I had never before seen this kind of always-available, store in the handlebar lock before it popped up on offer for me on amazon vine. For some cyclists, for some purposes, it’s absolutely brilliant and not pricey at all (another version from a more familiar brand is more than twice the cost). On my kitchen scale, it weighs 60 grams (2 ounces, with the two keys included). It was easy to install in my drop handlebars, and once there, it’s waiting for a use, and so unobtrusive that I just might forget I have it. I keep a key in the bag under the saddle … now I have a lock available, always. That’s huge.Of course, I also have a real lock – not a cable lock, and certainly not a combo lock – which I would have on hand if I was leaving my bike while doing a grocery run. Any boltcutters will snip through this in one go – the cable is 60cm long (24 inches) and just 4.5mm thick – including the plastic casing – so it’s probably a 3mm cable (1/8 inch). I’d bet I could cut it with linesman’s pliers, working away at it for 30 seconds or a minute, though I’m not sure. Probably susceptible to a bic pen picking exploit (looks like 4 pins, just right for that theft approach). Know its limits -- obviously, this is a lock for a limited purpose: for discouraging joyriders and opportunists, not for stopping prepared habitual thieves. If, like me, you have a $600 bike and live in a sleepy little town, you might just trust this for 20 minutes outside of the coffee shop – as I will. If your bike is a gorgeous carbon-framed wonder worth $1000 or more, you just might want this for the off chance that you have left your real lock somewhere else, and you absolutely must leave your bike stashed somewhere for an hour or so. 60 grams, a bit of security in situations of last resort… really great.

Great additional security. It's not a very long cable so I can't always use it to attach to a thick pole, but it has helped me out many times.
