To be honest, my first review of this product was 2 stars. I had a 7 degree temp swing in my homemade incubator. I couldn't figure out why after spending more money on a top quality thermostat that it would have such a large range.Today I went back and reconfigured my setup. I previously had the thermostat facing away from the light bulb and the CPU fan. Today I turned it around so it was directly facing the bulb and I used a different CPU fan that had better wiring/fan speed. After setting it up this way, I've been patiently waiting for the temp to stabilize inside the styrofoam cooler, I am soooo glad that I have the opportunity to change my review. I am now giving this thermostat 5 stars, as my incubator is now holding steady at 98.2F low to 100.4 high. It's so much better than the 94-101 that I was getting before. I call it operator error, not product error.

Bought this for a homemade styrofoam cooler egg incubator, in which the temps prior to installation swung from 85-112 using only a lightbulb and no fan. (Still miraculously got a couple chicks to hatch!) Installed this baby (plus a CPU fan) after reading mixed reviews on it's comparison to a wafer thermo and am thrilled! My eggs are now comfortably incubating with no more than a 2 degree swing! Hooray! Hopefully it stays this way with time..we shall see..

I made my own incubator using a water heater thermostat. The temperature range was too varied. I had some chicks hatch but most didn't. If I were to venture a guess it was probably about 25%. Some chicks got stuck to the egg membrane and despite my best efforts died. These were usually my Jersey Giants. With the new thermostat I probably get about a 75% hatch rate now and I've had far more Jersey Giants hatch than I did previously.

Can't set exact temperature. Have to do trial and error to set it. When set temperature does not remain constant. It varies by almost 3 degrees F. Not acceptable for an incubator.

I have used this kit in our button quail incubator for more than a year now. The incubator is made from an insulated 48-quart camping cooler. The thermostat switches the output of a +12vdc, 1 amp wall transformer power supply to a DC-controlled (4-24vdc) Solid State Relay and to a +12vdc CPU fan, thus turning both devices "on." The "on" SSR output switches 120vac to two, 75w black reptile bulbs in ceramic sockets that are wired in parallel. The "on" CPU fan blows over a pan of water located at the bottom of the incubator. The evaporating water provides an average 60-65% humidity level when the lid of the incubator is kept closed. The thermostat maintains the incubator temperature within a consistent 99-100*F range. We are able to monitor everything inside the incubator - including temperature and humidity readings - through a glass window attached by duct tape to the lid. Despite high humidity levels the thermostat's contacts have not required burnishing (cleaning). This thermostat is an excellent product!

Included clear instructions. delivered quickly. They packed a tiny screwdriver to adjust the control knob. Very thoughtful setup allowed me to finish my project.
