If you're not handy with tools or have the right tools do not attempt. I was fortunate to have a lift available. It would have been very difficult without the lift. Watch the YouTube video from Etrailer. Install looks great.

Was a bit more challenging to install than other Blue Ox base plates I have installed.

Had to contact Blue Ox as the Tow Bar Adapters only stuck out past my bumper approximately 1/2 inch making hooking up a pain in the butt. Plus it caused paint damage to my bumper from the pins and safety hooks rubbing on the bumper. Blue Ox recommended the new and improved BX2412, it's install was as easy as removing your two hooks and installing the new tow bases (left and right sides) and only required 1 hole to be drilled. Compared with the 6 holes that had to be drilled for the BX1986. I am a little upset that I have all these holes in my frame now and have put on a corrosion protective paint to hopefully prevent any rust from developing from the removal of the BX1986. I will complement Blue Ox on the replacement with the BX2412 and will give that one 5 stars, easy installation longer tow adapters making hook up a breeze again.

Good I worked at my Uncle's body shop when I was younger. If you don't have a good grasp of removing body parts, particularly pumpers and grills, you might want to think twice before you try and undertake this project. As it was, with a pretty good knowledge of how to take things like this apart and put him back together, it took me a full day to get everything done. The instructions were horrible, and common sense was a central along with a knowledge of structural and mechanical engineering.

Base plate arrived promptly and fit well. It is a rather big job to install but everything fit well and the instructions pretty well explained everything.

Fairly easy install. Look to YouTube for really good instructions. The paper instructions are OK but seeing it done is better than 1000 words. The E-Trailer 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 video recommends some cutting that isn't really required. I followed the 2012 instruction video for my 2015 Ram and no cutting was required. It fit right in.

Great baseplate with simple easy to follow instructions. Be careful when installing the mounting nuts that have the guide wire attached, if you do not firmly grip them, they can twist inside the frame and will not tighten properly! The plates (2 piece, not as in picture) are hidden and the tow ststem is very easy to use!

I received the plates at a great price and delivery was early. I installed these yesterday and it took about 2.5 to 3 hours lying on the ground in my driveway. I raised the front of the truck up by driving it up onto about 4" in height wood planks. Pulling the air dam off was easy to start the project. Installed was the drivers side first, them the passenger side which needed a (very) little grinding where it meets the bumper support to fit in. Reaming the existing holes as required on the chassis (17/32") can be a little demanding on your wrist, slow and easy will do it though. You will need a decent set of clamps or long reach vice-grips to properly hold the plates against the chassis. Drilling the remainder of the holes was not so bad since I had a good sharp 17/32" drill. Do not use anything larger or smaller. The directions require you drill a 1 1/4" hole in two spots to get the nuts in for 4 bolts. If you bend the wire supporting the 4 nuts properly and still them thru the hole you wont have much of a problem getting them caught on the bolt. Make sure you use the Lock-Tite as required. Once I was done drilling and bolting and before I installed the plugs for the 1 1/4" holes I painted everything with Rustoleum Rust Resolver primer and after that dried I painted it all with the Rustoleum bed liner to protect it. A little hint, do not try and drill the 17/32" holes in the chassis directly with this drill bit. Put it in the hole of the plate and drill just a little, then you have a good center point, finish that center point thru with a 1/4" or 5/16" drill bit. Reinstall the 17/32" drill bit into your drill and finish the holes. Again when drilling with a drill this big it can grab and give your wrist a little twist if you're not careful. The truck came with the factory tow hooks that had to be removed and there was no trimming of anything required on my truck. The only comment I would have negative is that the painting of the plates in some areas could be better, but I took care of my concerns with good old Rustoleum
