Blue Sea Systems smaller, more compact version of the popular Add-A-Battery kit to its product offering was primarily designed for outboard powered boats with alternator output of 65A or less. When installed, the Mini Add-A-Battery isolates the start battery from the house loads which prevents the discharge of the start battery. The Mini Add-A-Battery offers a simple way to control the charging and battery switching of two battery banks. The M-Series Dual Circuit Plus Battery Switch simplifies the switching while the M-ACR automates charging between two batteries.

I needed to add a second batter to my 1996 Searay 180. I only ever ran a single deep cycle but got stranded last year at the lake when it died. So with this mini add a baterry kit, (3) 65A circuit breakers, (2) busses, some 2 and 4 AWG wire, I added a marine starting battery just for starting the engine and a separate marine deep cycle battery for the rest of the boats electical system.

Product worked fine and is operating as designed. However, no installation hardware what so ever. No mounting screws or nuts. Had to bring items to the store and get exact fit stainless steel hardware. You would think for the price they’d at least give you some screws!

If you are doing a dual battery setup - this has to be the best. especially when you have different amp hour batteries. My boat Seadoo Switch comes with a little jetski 18 AmpHour battery, I put in a large 110 Amp Hour battery as primary and made the 18 secondary. things can run independent.Position up is off, turn 1 quarter turn both batteries on independently and can run things separate. God forbid your primary is out, turn 1 more quarter turn and both on together. enough to turn over the motor. Also included, there is the ACR to setup a dual charge and cut out when secondary battery is full. I have not installed that yet. it is on my list of next things to upgrade.

Setup 2 battery system, one for just motor and the other for accessories. System knows which battery needs charging and when complete switches to other battery. No need to switch to battery A or B, all automatic. Just turn it on when you get in the boat and off when you a done for the day. Has taken the worry if the motor will start!

I used this to add a second battery to my 23 year old boat... it was pretty straight forward, but if you're confused there's plenty of videos about it on youtube. You'll need some fuses to go between the battery switch and the voltage sensitive relay... they recommend "battery post fuse blocks", "Blue Seas Systems" make them, but you can get cheaper clones on here.

This works as promised. Some folks say there is a fantom leak within the system. I asked Blue Sea about this concerns and they provided me with a wiring schematic to prevent any loss. Has worked great on my pontoon with the new stereo system.

I use a trolling motor and some items in my boat will kill the battery over time - so this product I bought so that I don’t have to worry about getting everyone ready for a boat ride just to find the battery is dead :-(AndTo be able to turn off any connection between the accessories and the batteries is a good thing :-)If you purchase some large wire and end connectors and follow the directions on the drawings sent it is very easy to wire up - whether you want to wire it up through your dash console or all at the back of the bought as I did.You turn it two twining the batteries when you start and are cruising so that you get a great start every time and you get both batteries charges and turn it to main battery #1 only when you want to use your trolling battery and you never have to worry that you kill both batteries to be able to strat up your motor again to head home. I am very pleased with the product and would highly recommend it.Good luck !!!Brad

Installation was a bit tricky for someone that doesn’t understand basic electrical but I had some help from someone that did understand it and after install we did some testing to insure everything worked as expected and it did and still does. Very happy with this setup now, I don’t have to worry about draining my battery too much while the engine is off.

This thing is AWESOME! I bought it for an I/O - I have a deep cycle and starting battery. This allows you to charge both batteries off of the alternator through the ACR. The other feature(s) is that the switch itself allows both batteries to be on but only draw energy from the battery that is physically being used (e.g. When my fish finder is on, the deep cycle battery is being utilized and NOT the starting batttery); the other feature related to the switch is that you can combine both batteries if you starting battery is low voltage. The ACR also stops power to the batteries if either falls below a certain voltage - this has essentially given me piece of mind and I don't have to worry about hauling a jump starter pack around. It works really well with my 55 amp alternator. I always charge my batteries up the night before and honestly, if I'm out for a couple of hours, it doesn't take long for both batteries to maintain full charge - you can see this through the LED status light on the ACR - I personally mounted this to my dash and l love having it right where I can see.Not only is it convenient to have both batteries recharge, but it really is a safety feature. This baby allows me to recharge both batteries throughout my time on the water!
