So....these are 1960s Marx mold army men. That alone is a special thing. Exactly as you remember if you were a kid in the 60s and 70s.These arent inexpensive but they are exactly what you remember....all the detail and I think they even feel the same....not too soft and not too hard plastic either. Havent stepped on one yet to know for sure....Do you want to gift these to someone? Check. Do you want them for yourself to bring happiness or actually use in a diorama? Check. Do you want to gift these to a child? Well....not sure on that as you can get hundreds at a dollar variety store for the same price. BUT....these are high quality VERY detailed and are a bit bigger than the super cheapies. I included a pic of crawlers...the small weird color one is a dollar store man so you can see the huge difference. Also, this color is the correct color of what we had back then.So I got two different bags. BMC U.S. Soldiers 1960s Plastic Army Men 31 pieces. Comes with a raft, two paddlers, sitting men and I got 4 parachute guys in my bag with various other poses. The bases have nothing stamped on them. The old ones had the round Marx symbol. I am blown away these are the same. One of my sitting guys was deformed but all others were clean and neat with very high detail and no burs or flashing or problems. Just great since one guy usually gets pummeled anyway....lol.The others I chose are Iwo Jima: pictured a few in last photo. These are slightly larger and are stamped BMC Toys China and some numbers. Highly detailed, same type hardness very close or same color. Many different poses from my other bag. Also! The bazooka Joe's bazookas are removable! They come individually wrapped in the bigger bag. So detailed...a true pleasure to hold and enjoy. It is up to you how much you like to spend but i do feel I got a piece of history with the old Marx molds and a toy I had enjoyed so much as a child. An older child or adult would appreciate the big difference in these and the cheap dollar for 30 or more bags of men. A younger child imo just wants hundreds of men so quality may not be so impressive. There is really no comparrison to quality of these versus those cheapies. I am very happy with my purchases and wish I could afford more. They are still addictive even though Im old! I would love to get the cowboys and indians at some point since I had those as a kid also.
