Quality could be better. Just for a couple hard bolts.

Taking exhaust manifold heatshield bolts off my 90's GM, they're not so much stripped as they are rusted enough to not have corners to "bite" onto, so plenty of PB Blaster and a stripped bolt extractor is really the only option. They're supposed to be 10mm bolts, but for whatever reason 3/8" is what all four are.Two came out, and I was REALLY happy with it, raving about how much work it was saving me, only to get to the third and have basically zero bite. I could feel all six possible positions it lining up,then slipping immediately. Tried the fourth, same deal. Didn't it just free up two bolts?! What happened?!Tried my 3/8" crescent wrench that slips, and even IT had better bite than this guy! Isn't it supposed to "bite" into the metal instead of relying on shapes? How does it fail at exactly both tasks? Easy: circles don't have grip. Look for yourself, it's rounded out to the point that the metal's squished outside the socket, after only two rusted bolts with 3-4 doses of PB Blaster, with at least 24 hours between each one. I gave this guy about the easiest job it could get, and it failed miserably.Even if the manufacturer offers a replacement, I only have two bolts left, I won't be changing this review. If it strips after the next two, how am I gonna know?Buy something with a harder metal like I will. I still need a bolt extractor, but absolutely not what behaves basically like clay.

Not bad but I wish they went one size smaller I looked everywhere for a 3/16

This is a decent set of hardened bolt extractor tools and while these aren't going to outdo your Matco or Snap-On tools, they are good to have on hand in your garage just in case. If this doesn't work, try putting a few drops of weld on the head of the bolt which normally loosens them up from the heat, and lets you weld a nut on the top that can be backed out.

I used this for a stripped 12mm bolt on my mother in law's 2000 4Runner. (cover over the oil filter & drain plug.) First I tried using the retractor bit with my ratchet but I couldn't get the bite that was needed so I used the cordless impact driver & it worked immediately for backing out the stripped bolt head. I'm happy that I have this handy set for any other stripped bolts that I need to address down the road.

Ok, when this came up on Vine, I ordered it first thing because I remember being on the farm last time I was home how much I wished I had something like this. Anyone wrenching on bolts and nuts knows what this is and why they'll need it eventually. I haven't got to use this in true anger yet, so I am not going to fake the pictures on bolts that aren't really stripped, but I can't tell you how many times I could have used it during the summer when I was cranking on mower decks and tractors and trying to get bolts off that had been aged or rusted. When they get rounded off, it's the most irritating thing. This is a tool set you never need it until you do, and then you can't do without it. It is going into my kit and to the farm where I need it most of the time. So, the review is going to be a little limited since I haven't had a good target for it this fall, but I can tell you about the kit. The sockets do seem to be of high quality, if non-finished steel. The spiral design that is for gripping what remains of the bolt head or nuts looks quite capable of doing the job it is intended for. I have seen enough cheap sockets to know this isn't. It isn't dolled up steel, it is pretty rough looking, and that is fine by me if it can save me hours of swearing as vice grips slip off rounded bolts. They are not particular deep sockets, but normally bolt heads won't need that. There is a punch out tool to push bolt heads out that get stuck in the extraction sockets. This is a nice kit for any tool box to have. In fact, I think it would be a good gift. Lots of guys likely aren't looking for this kit, but if they use tools, they are going to appreciate what this is. I know I would, if I received it, because when you need it, there is just nothing else that will do.

There have been many times in my life that I wished I had this set of removers! Now I do have a set that covers most of the bases in a stripped or rounded bolt head situation. They do appear well made and come with a nice little storage case that I appreciate. However, it also appears that this set was previously used and returned, and as you can see in the photos, there are all kinds of smudges and scratches on the inside of the case. Looking through the sockets, it appears a couple of them have a small amount of wear on them. Nothing that should hinder the performance of the sockets, but there's always a little frustration when ordering new, and getting used!
