I have to admit, I was drawn to this particular model because of what seems to be solid build quality. I cannot recommend this as a spine tester without considerable modification. First, the 2 pound weight weighed 2 pounds 5.3 ounces out of the box. Second, the weight of the pan was not figured in to the total measurement mass. My pan has a weight of 5.1 ounces. Third, the spring force of the micrometer was not added, and at the directed 1/4" setup distance, measured 4.8 ounces. For those keeping track at home, this means a total of nearly three pounds of force on the shaft. I have access to calibrated balances and can tune the force, but anyone using this out of the box is in trouble. Considering about 10.5 ounces of force between micrometer spring and weight pan, their weight should only come in at 1 pound 5.5 ounces. An even better approach wound have been to mount the micrometer below the arrow shaft, and sum the masses of both weight and pan, allowing for a true zero.So, while I give them high marks for build quality, their precision is so far off that it is not even possible to precisely spins arrow shafts with this to any meaningful degree of accuracy.If they could get their mass remotely correct and remove the micrometer return spring, probably 4 stars.
