Very unsafe for pet, a lot of money spent on garbage! Do not recommend!

So now that this is finally set up, I'm happy with my purchase. I was cursing it yesterday when I was setting it up, however. For reference in my situation- we have 4 cats in our home, and now have an adorable winter white dwarf hamster. I wanted to have a cage that was large enough for the hamster to be happy and thrive, but also be able to keep a dwarf hamster confined and keep the cats out.The cage itself is 4 pieces and is not hard to put together. The only set of instructions that came in the box were for this part, which is the easiest. The thing that annoyed and frustrated me was that the instructions were basically useless. They were incredibly basic and only listed the common sense aspects of putting it together. I was (probably overly) concerned about how to utilize the metal tabs to secure the wire pieces together. Would going over or under make it more secure? As mentioned, I wanted this cage to be secure for my hamster so she can't escape, and the cats can't get in. In the end, some metal tabs went under and some went over. It's just how it works out in order to fit everything together.A helpful note that I did realize right away but in case someone wouldn't think of it- I did NOT attach the wire top until the very end. You'd never get the platforms in without that off. Add the top last.Platforms/houses- everything has to be assembled yourself, and there are zero directions, not even a simple picture of the final product. I tried to look at the little picture of the cage on the Amazon page on my phone and it was a huge pain. I think it's helpful to realize that these work like puzzles. For the house, make sure the side pieces line up before putting the top pieces on. For the platforms, start with the biggest side piece and work from there. Most of the sides slide and lock into the base piece. End with the shortest side pieces that just stick on, they don't slide and lock. You need to have the pieces locked in together in order for the platform to be sturdy. Finally, putting the platforms on the cage- I had the biggest headache here because my platforms were definitely 2 different wood colors (and they were in 2 different packages. So one would ASSUME that the provided ladder would go with that platform....) The darker wood platform had the longest ladder, so I put that as the bottom platform.... but then the top platform ladder didn't reach the bottom platform and everything was all messed up. Finally I realized that if I switched the ladders, things would work the way it was supposed to. You can see in my attached picture that the lighter wood platform is the bottom, but it has the darker wood ladder, and the dark wood platform is the top but is has the lighter wood ladder. I had to take off the plaforms 3+ times before getting this right. It was incredibly frustrating and I hope this review helps others when they set it up.This entire process took me about 1.5 hours, and I am pretty good at assembling furniture and things, so I was not thrilled with this assembly AT ALL. That said, now that everything is assembled, I do really like it. the company did at least send a bunch of zip ties with the cage to help secure the sides and top, and I feel like it's pretty secure. I don't think my dwarf hamster will be able to escape, but it's only been 1 day, so we'll see. I definitely think the cats can't get in it so that's good. It's a lot of space for a dwarf hamster and it was nice to have all these toys/extras included. The wheel is really great, it's very quiet. I do think an extra lock of some sort is necessary to keep the front door from popping open. I happened to have a velcro strap (picture included) and that works perfectly to fit over the top and front latches and secure the doors. I highly recommend something like that in order to give the cage a bit more security. So, in the end- this is a good cage, and I do recommend it- but follow the advice in my review in order to save yourself 1 hr+ work and a lot of headache.*Edit- it's been over a week and I definitely feel my hamster is secure and happy in this cage. The cats haven't bothered her at all and the cage is tightly fit together so I don't worry about her escaping. I had to remove the top and bottom once now to fully clean the cage and it was easy to do and the cage went back together fine.

Pros: This cute cage is a perfect size for a single hamster or mouse! It could probably house two mice comfortably, but I bought it for one of my 7 girls since she didn't get along with anyone else between multiple cages after a couple of months, and seemed happiest by herself. The cage itself was very easy to set up which took about 5 mins, and unclips from the bottom tub for very easy cleaning! The accessories that came with the cage are very nice too, and after I added some rope and her favorite hide, she seems very content in her little penthouse. It also came with small zipties which come in very handy for toy placement! The wheel is silent as well so far, which is great. I think overall, it's worth it for the price considering how much it comes with, and it's a decent size for a starter cage, and not insanely small like some others.Cons: Personally, I'm not a huge fan of cage sides as apposed to glass or plastic to keep bedding more enclosed, but if you don't mind vacuuming a little more, it's fine. The water bottle that came with the cage is a good size for a single mouse, but the clip is a bit flimsy, but that can be cheap to upgrade.

HAMSTER CAGE. THIS IS THE BEST HAMSTER CAGE. BIG ! I GOT 2 NOW & HOOKED THEM TOGETHER WITH TUBES SO MY PETS HAVE LOTS OF ROOM TO RUN. CLEAR TO SEE. EASY TO CLEAN BECAUSE OF HAVING 2 GOOD SIZE DOORS, ONE ON THE TOP & ONE ON THE FRONT. WELL WORTH THE MONEY ! :)

I have a male dwarf hamster who has been living in a single-story huge Syrian hamster-sized enclosure. He was not thrilled with me coming at him from the top opening, and seemed to be hiding more often than my other hamsters had. Overall he seemed intimidated, spent a lot of time "underground" and even at night did not utilize the large floor space; I was worried he was not thriving. So when I saw this cage with multiple levels, a digging-depth clear bottom, and two big access points; I figured it was worth a try. Its the perfect fit! One instant improvement is that since the cage is smaller, I can have it on my studio desk open while I'm working and he walks right down the door/ramp and "helps" me move things around. Pulling paint brushes back to the cage is now a favorite thing :). He is "in charge" at eye level and not only saunters around, he is comfortable enough to fall asleep in a bed on the upper level. All of the goodies in this package work really well for his size: a silent and easy to rotate 8" wheel, easy to clean small feeding bowl that he can sit in, small drip-free water bottle, and wood levels/ramps that can be positioned for his smaller stature. I especially like how the levels have small lips that keep him from falling off (does not see well). The sand cleaning box is a huge hit: he digs, rolls, and even falls asleep inside. So far, he has shown no interest in chewing the wood (surprise to me!) and does not dig as much down into the five inches of tunnels/bedding as he used to. I'm guessing that the best cage has a lot to do with the personality and age of the hamster in question. I now have two of these cages, one of my older (and incisor-less) female Syrian hamsters has one too so I can keep closer contact with her. Overall probably the best pet-care purchases I've made.

I have NOT idea what people are complaining about lol. The cage arrived in excellent packaging. The metal cage parts were cable tied together to avoid bending and shifting in shipping. It took about 10 minutes to assemble.I will probably add some additional locks on the doors because I have smart and very curious cats.
