This two-pack of bullet piercing valves from Tiwerlfe work well and are easily installed on various sizes of copper lines. The valves include small, curved plates that adjust the compatibility down from 3/8” copper down to 5/16” or 1/4” copper. Installation is done using the included Allen wrench that each valve comes with. Once installed the Allen wrench is then used to pierce the line the valve is attached to. Note, the screw that controls the piercing of the copper line needs to be seated completely to seal the valve, if not fully seated the refrigerant will be released from the valve if hoses are not in place.

I’ve used one so far on a 134 system. It was able to pierce the copper and allow me to check and charge a small ac. The plates were a little confusing at first but I got the right size to snug up. I believe this will be a good way to temp fix a window unit or something smaller.

My neighboor threw out a 500$ wine cooler because it no longer cools. It has closed loop of freon lines so no way to test it. I bought this valve to install on low line and it worked like a charm. My gauge shows negative pressure, which means it is either low or out of freon. You can use the same valve to pull vacuum and or recharge it. In theory you are not supposed to leave these piercing valves and replace it with a brazed in valve. But I will install it for now. If it leaks, i will recover everything through it, then remove it, braze in a permanent one and will pull vacuum and charge with freon. And yes, I have EPA 608 certificate - anyone can get it after passing test.
