About Taps

Straight flute design, made of 6542 high speed steel. It is used to process threads of various through holes or shallow blind holes. Can process copper, brass, A3 steel, aluminum, cast iron and other materials.

Generally used in conjunction with tapping machines, integrated bench drills, CNC lathes, machining centers, etc. Manual processing is also possible. When operating, control the speed according to the hardness of the material, the higher the hardness of the processed product, the slower the speed.

Recommended feed rate:

Hard steel: 5-10m/min, cast iron: 8-10m/min, ordinary steel: 6-15m/min.

About Dies

Made of alloy tool steel, hardness and wear resistance. Used to repair external threads. When in use, the conical locking hole of the die is aligned with the screw of the wrench and tightened. The conical keyhole has a strong locking force and is not easy to loosen.

Suggest:

Appropriate lubricating oil should be added to the die-cutting edge when cutting, It is to be reversed every 1/4~1/2 turn to facilitate chip discharge from the chip hole.

Tips

  • Please be sure to take protective measures when working, you need to wear goggles and protective gloves.
  • Before tapping confirm whether the diameter of the round hole is appropriate. Be sure to select the appropriate cutting oil for the complex tapping process and apply anti-rust oil for maintenance after use.
  • When tapping, control the speed according to the hardness of the material, it is necessary to add water or coolant to cool down to prevent excessive temperature and reduce tap loss.

The part is weak and broke very easy. Not happy about it…!!!

Feels cheap because it is cheap. Cuts threads. Threads are weaker than expected, so I use slightly higher thread engagement than normal - I usually cut 75% threads. With this tap, 85% leads to a thread approximately as strong as a typical 75% thread.

These taps are absolute junk. Don't bother with this weak material that will chip and break unless you're trying to tap something as soft as butter...

These threading tools are junk. Thread a nut with the tap, then thread a rod with the die and the two are not at all in any sort of precision fit. The nut will wobble on the threaded rod. More Chinese trash... If they build their own equipment with this type of tooling, Taiwan will destroy China.

This set was purchased for making rifle OAL cases to fit the Hornady OAL gage. The tap works well on Brass cases. Needs an M size drill bit to drill out the primer pocket.

Used it to tap a fitting and had to chase the threads on a brass tube. Worked great.
