I spent so much trying to find the correct FTDI chip. Some post that it has it while they have the PL23xx chip which is a cheaper less reliable version. I hate that Amazon allows people selling and scamming people but atleast they back you up. This is the correct cable and chip my telescope mount needed. I had to order another one just in case. I rather have the one that works then looking all over again for it. Thank you for being real and selling a good quality cable.

This cable work great in windows 10 and 11. Don't have to search for device drivers, as windows support it.The annoying message that this device is not supported after 2012, which I get with cables with other chipset, is gone.

This review is for CableCreation USB to RS232 Adapter (FTDI Chipset). I have a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Raspbian Jessie, and this adapter plugs right in and is configured automatically - no drivers need to be installed. It is assigned the device name "ttyUSB0" if it's the first USB serial adapter, "ttyUSB1" if the second, etc. Using it with the Python "serial" module is a snap. It is a good, inexpensive, no-frills way to add serial ports to your Pi.

I was trying to avoid buying a specialty device cable from the manufacturer. Think %1000+ markup (literally). I initially ordered another USB to RS-232 (prolific chipset) cable but failed to notice that the product drivers specified FDTI. This cable fits the bill and functions at a fraction of the cost. Generally speaking if you are using this cable for a DIY project I would say go ahead and pony up the couple extra dollars for the FDTI cable. It seems to play better with windows 10 (I am unfortunately forced to use) and after doing research into the subject is more compatible in general. I noticed a lot of one star reviews on the other cable stating it was DOA, I tend to believe that people failed to do their research and were unaware of the two common chipset styles that may or may not work in specific cases like mine.In short this is a quality cable and the one I would advise purchasing but do your research and make sure your device drivers are not dependent on a prolific chipset.

The software that I am using this with is quite picky, this is the only one it will work with, and it does work very well. Gold plated too, so no chance of a corroded pin or the like.

So... Why? Well I have a brand new Telescope mount from iOptron, but to upgrade the firmware, they need a serial port(!). I HAD an old usb/serial port converter, but no driver for windows. THIS converter installed, picked up driver automatically under a windows 10 (did not even need to fiddle with mini-CD) and it worked flawlessly, my mount updated its firmware uneventfully... Very happy

After reading reviews from other USB to RS232 cables, I decided to go for this one due to it using the FTDI chipset. Setup couldn't have been easier and the cable works like a charm. I'm using it from my amateur radio to my laptop. Would buy again if the need arises.
