This is a great light for camping. You can pull out the string to line a canopy and provide some nice lighting around a campsite, or keep it wound up and have it be a local light. I like that it can be charged so you don’t need batteries.

This is a curiosity - but how many times have you been camping or had a power outage and your headlamp or flashlight just isn't cutting it? Enter this bad mamma jammer- it unrolls from its housing and stretches about 30 feet, providing warm ambient light across the whole length. The housing has two additional lights as well, adding to the lighting potential. It also has an RGB function, but to be honest, I wasn't too impressed with it - it has two modes, flashing between warm light and a fixed RGB, and breathing RGB. It looks like each individual light only has two LEDs, a warm/white one and one of a red, green, or blue light, so you don't get that cool color-change affect or any secondary or tertiary colors, you're stuck with the three primary colors. That said, for $15 (the list price at time of writing), I wouldn't expect much more, and the functionality of the white LEDs more than makes up for it's lackluster RGB effects. It also has some other cool features, including a plastic hook at the end of the string that can easily be clipped to a tent, a loop of fabric, a paracord, whatever you can find, so it's nice and anchored in place even when fully extended. The clip also snaps into the main body, which is a nice touch. The body also comes with a little reel that you can use to neatly rewind the light when not in use, so it's easy to deploy and put back into storage, which is ideal on the final morning of a camping trip where you're worn out and ready to hit the road, and any obstacle between you and breaking camp is a source of irritation (well, if you're anything like me, at least. The USB C charging port is also a welcome addition, so it charges pretty quickly compared to similar products still using micro USB.All in all, this is a pretty neat contraption, and you get a lot of utility for that $15 list price.

This little light has so many uses! I originally got it just for the string lights, but have found so many more uses since then. It acts great as a stationary single light source, and the magnets on the back hold it very firmly in place. The spotlight on the back is very powerful as well. The string of lights is great and the multi colors look good. They are very thin though, so just be careful when stretching out and reeling in. Overall this was a great multi-use value for the price.

This light is amazingly versatile in a compact body. It can be an overhead light and attach by magnet or hook with a bright spot light setting or a more broad room light or a flashing emergency light. Then you can pull out the string of lights for a really long 32 foot string. You just turn the crank and it all sweeps back into the base. Now why can't all lights be like this? The string is either all white or red, white, and blue or flashing r,w,b. I really like the concept but as stated it only lasts 5-8 hours. With continuous use, my unit lasted 5 hours, I was hoping for more.

We are avid car-campers and get out as often as possible during the summer months. We usually set up a 10' x 10' pop-up canopy over the picnic table provided at the campsite, and I will use these string lights to light it up because they are the perfect length to use to run along three sides of the canopy. These string lights throw plenty of light at night, and that makes seeing things around the table very easy. The hook on the one end of the string is very convenient to use to anchor that end of the string to one of the canopy's arms, and I use a carabiner clip attached to the piece that swings out from the body of the light and which you crank to wind the string back into the reel to attach that end onto the canopy. Easy peasy. The battery life is sufficient for at least two full nights before we recharge it. This newest addition to our kit may, optionally be going into our tent where we will run the light string along the top edges of our hexagonal-shaped tent. I like the breathing color effect a lot, it seems very peaceful and will do very well at bedtime. Bottom line, when you're out in the woods there are plenty of opportunities to benefit from this very compact string of lights, and unlike the ones we decorate our house with, these never get tangled up! A+
