I inherited my mother's pressure canner and a few other canning items, but was missing several of these very necessary tools. I was pleased to see how well made these items are. The business ends of the tools are covered with silicone, to prevent slippage, and the handles of the jar lifter are material like cooking pot handles are made from. Sometimes you don't know you need something until you're in the actual moment of not having it. This kit covers all of that. I never thought of needing a magnetic tool to lift jar lids out of the boiling hot water, but I'm sure glad I have one now! The jam ladle, measuring spoons, and labels are nice extras. Everything for just under $20 AND it's all dishwasher safe! Amazing!

Everything in the kit is sturdy and well-made. I wasn't sure if the tongs would be strong enough or grippy enough to pull up a full, slippery jar but I had no problems. The funnel did not warp when hot liquids were poured through it. The spoon is strong and seemed to be fine going through the dishwasher. The measuring spoons are comparable to other ones I already have.

My wife has done a lot of canning over the years and had the following comments about this kit. There were only two items she considers uniquely essential for canning. They are the funnel and the jar lifter for taking the hot jars out of boiling water. The funnel would be more useful if the handle were longer because you tend to spill hot sticky stuff on the funnel; some might otherwise end up on your hand. She prefers metal measuring spoons because plastic measuring spoons often obtain a static electric charge and ingredients stick to them in inconvenient ways. A long knife works fine for popping bubbles. The number of labels included would be insufficient. She instead writes on the lids. The lids are single use so that isn’t a problem. If you write with a black marker pen, most of the ink can be removed with rubbing alcohol. The ladle would be more useful if it had spouts on the left and right sides. I’ve tried to show an example in the photos.

I’m learning how to can and needed a beginner starting kit for the pressure cooker. I was really pleased with the quality of everything. The silicone on the instruments is thick. The plastic is really thick - not lightweight at all. This is such a great kit! I’m so excited to have every single item on my wish list all together in one purchase. Such a good purchase!
