30+ YEARS OF PATTERN DATA

For the last 30+ years, Carlson's Choke Tubes have been able to grow and improve their line of choke tubes. This has come from patterning tens of thousands of shells, and using all different makes and models of shotguns. By examining patterns and making adjustments to things such as the parallel section, finish, and diameters, Carlson's Choke Tubes are able to provide choke tubes that performs as you would expect in the field and at the range. Over the last few years Carlson's Choke Tubes have grown their product line, and some of this can be attributed to the Electronic Patterning Board (EPB) that we have at our disposal. This technology allows Carlson's Chobe Tubes to see various things such as point of impact (POI), pattern percentage, and pattern density. Using the EPB, Carlson's Choke Tubes are able to get more accurate data. This advantage is passed on to the customer by designing accurate chokes.

CHOKE TUBES INFORMATION

Carlson’s Choke Tubes are made from the finest corrosion-resistant 17-4 PH stainless steel available. Most factory choke tubes are made of lessor stainless steel, which equates to a choke that won’t hold up to most steel shot loads or heavy buffered shotshells. Steel shot patterns tighter than lead shot. Generally speaking, you will want to use a more open choke when shooting steel shot than you would with lead.

PATTERNING INFORMATION

Patterning your shotgun is very important as every shotgun, choke, and load combination will produce various results. Generally when patterning your shotgun you will want to have a target area that would hold a 30 inch circle. You will want to set your target at the desired yardage you will be shooting at 40 yards is a good start and is widely used in the industry to compare results. Make sure you have a good stance or rest so you get accurate data. Point of aim (POI) of the shotgun is important to recognize. The POI of the gun can be affected by the gun, stance, shooter, choke, or load. Generally 12ga and 20ga choke constrictions follow the chart below.

EFFECTIVE YARDAGE FOR MOST LOADS

When patterning your gun you need to keep in mind that lead loads will pattern more open than steel loads in the same constrictions. Steel loads shot through lead constrictions will produce tighter patterns. See below:

Skeet choke shot with steel will produce an IC pattern
IC choke shot with steel will produce a Modified pattern
Modified choke shot with steel will produce a Full pattern

i pair this with my stoeger m3020 and win longbeard xr #5s, super tight pattern and gets the job done. i will say though, at least in my gun, it shifted the pattern a bit low right. not terrible, and if you use a scope its no issue. if not, do what i do and just mentally adjust your shot.

At 20 yards it literally shoots the dirt while aiming at a pizza box with Winchester 3inch double x and with Remington 3 inch it hits to bottom of the box and far right while aiming dead center at 20 yards!

I'll give this choke four stars for now since I have not patterned my gun yet but past experience with Carlson's chokes tells me it ought to do well. I've got some Browning BXD 20 ga. 3" #5 shot shells I got before the ammunition shortage started to use in it. Screwed it in muzzle and fits like it ought to. I've got another Carlson's turkey choke to put in the lower barrel coming. When that gets here I'll give this combination a try at the range.
