The most common problem with speakers are rotted, torn or damaged surrounds. The surround is the outer suspension part of the cone. Constant vibration, time and the environment cause foam and rubber surrounds to degrade. Cloth and paper surrounds can become brittle. This causes distortion and poor performance.

I was going to sell my Cerwin Vegas, that I've had for over 40 years, because the foam was in is such bad shape and I presumed finding someone to do the repair would be to expensive.Then I found this repair kit.These repair kits were unbelievably easy and it has brought my Vintage Cerwin Vega D-5s back to life.Unfortunately I didn't take any after pictures but they came out great.

Initially bought the wrong size as the year my speakers were made are slightly smaller, a new set was sent out quickly free of charge. I was able to install with not too much difficult and speakers are performing well.

Perfect fit. The instructions were concise and the included glue worked well also. Just keep in mind that this is a time consuming task, requiring patience and some physical effort to clean the old foams and glue off in order to prepare the speakers for the new ones. Simple tool requirements. All you need is a utility knife with a couple of new blades, A flat blade screwdriver for scraping and some rubbing alcohol to help loosen the old foam and glue.

-Installation is not as simple as the video would lead you to believe. If you have 4 speakers to repair, I strongly suggest buying 3 kits because you will likely mess the first one up.-The foam requires modification for nearly every installation because it is oversized (diameter is too large). I installed on 1 E312 and 2 VS-120 Cerwin Vega woofers. Each installation required the foam to be cut and glued to a smaller diameter. This leads to a seam in the foam.-The included glue is top notch. They do respond to questions.-My standard overall rating for something expected to work good is 4 starts - 1 star off for being oversized causing installation difficulties, 1 star off for repair being visually unattractive (seam), 1 star added for glue and support responses.-Be prepared for difficulty If you have a laminated paper or rubber surround (some are painted to appear orange/red). No solvent will help you remove such a surround from a paper cone. You will need to apply some finish or sealer to the cone after removal because the top layer of the paper cone come off with the surround. The glue bites hard to a frayed layer of paper. Proceed with care or you will need to recone the woofer.

bon produit jai installé mais ce qu il faux savoir il faux vraiment bien nettoyer le contour du haut parleur et suivre les indication a la lettre et être doué avec ses main un peux pour le reste moi ça bien marché j avait deux paire de haut parleur cerwin véga le même model identique une paire qui était en bonne condition et l autre paire que j ai reformé avec ce produit j ai vendu mes haut parleur et la personne qui les a acheté amais mieux le son de ceux que j ai reformé voila

dont know if all the seller products r defective but the foam kit i got were defective. both are slight oval. like the foam is stretched , pulled , making it not round. never notice. till i install. did 1 speaker. and see it not wanting to lay round on original factory cone foam marks. when force used to make it center like the "okay" guy in video demos to do. the foam then just kinks up. i buy kit n feb 2023. got round 2 installin in august. did 1 noy 2 speakers cause the other foam is oval too. also if u buy check it as soon u can to see if true round. also use right away cause the glue is in a unsealed tube and mine was dried up and would not spread out like demo by video of the "okay" guy. the seller was useless in solving issue. Thought id update this. frig it i put the known defective foam on. at low level ---under 12 o'clock the speakers do ok. go above 1 o'clock the defect foam shows it defect in resonce unbalance. distortion. the nad amp supply is clean to 2.5 oclock. so i can use but not at max or damage coils. soo in the end im happy to be using my old speakers i buy when i was young. so i update the 1 star to 4 star.

I can't say enough good things about this product and company.Got the kit and watched the video and got myself amped up to do it. After starting to glue the first one I noticed it seemed awful stiff until I was halfway around the ring when the consistency changed to what I would expect.After realizing that the glue had either frozen in transit or was just a bad tube I reached out to Simply Speakers and they quickly rectified the situation, sending me a new gasket and tube of glue.In just a few days I was back in business and jamming out again!.... (So I thought)After noticing the bass seemed a little one sided I quickly realized that I had glued one a little off center and the coil was rubbing. Painstakingly I razored the frame from the outer ring and INTENSELY watched the video again.Being now extra mindful of the travel I recentered and reglued the rim gasket and the next day was up and running and enjoying speakers I've loved for years.It's a great product with support that took the fear away from doing something I thought was out of my abilities.Thanks Simply Speakers!

Easy to install. I did not know how badly my 25 year old speakers sounded. Till i used these. The one complaint i have is the 15" foams seem a little small. The 12" is right on. Hope tjey hold up another 26 years. Watch the youtube video before installing. It is well shot and there is no fluff just revelation information

I have a pair of 12" Cerwin Vega HED speakers that I inherited a few years ago from my late step-father, the surrounds were completely gone. I remember hearing these about 20 years ago and I remember they sounded awful, when I looked at them back in the early 90s the surrounds were mostly gone.I recently ordered the repair kit, the installation took about an hour and a half each, most of the time was spent waiting for the glue to dry.The new surrounds were sized perfectly, instructions were very clear and in proper English.The included glue could probably serve for 10 pairs of kits, there is plenty.Removing the old surround and adhesive took no time at all. Aligning the surround to the cone was very simple, don't overdo it on the glue. I suggest wearing a pair of blue nitrile gloves, they protect you from the glue and they also keep the surround or speaker from sticking to your fingers if you do get glue on them.When I finished with the surround and put the gasket back on I turned the speaker over and let it sit on a flat surface for an hour, this puts the weight of the speaker on the gasket and ensures it's fully sealed.Reinstall was a breeze, I tested the new surrounds using a Lepai 20 watt amp and an NFC Hotspot bluetooth adapter to stream music from my phone. I was expecting a lot less sound quality from this setup, however the little Lepai powered the speakers wonderfully, and with surprisingly good bass. The quality of these surrounds is certainly better than new, I can see these speakers easily outliving their previous lifespan. I'm very impressed.This was a very easy fix to relatively expensive speakers, I love the sound of "real" speakers and can't believe I waited this long to fix them. I don't think they will end up as garage speakers after all.I posted a few pictures of the repair, Before, During and After.Terrific product!
