The original oil insert for the lantern isn’t available anymore from UCO. I was glad to find this because I got tired of cleaning out the wax from the lantern after almost every time the candle needed replacing. It has a screw on cap to keep oil from leaking out, but it won’t fit in the lantern with the cap on. Keep the spring because this burner is slightly shorter than the candle, and will rattle around without the spring. I use oil, not alcohol; I think alcohol is a bit too flammable. After 4 hours or so it’s harder for the oil to be drawn up the wick, so the flame diminishes. I just cut the tip of the wick on an angle with scissors, and it went right through the opening.

Bought the 2 pack so I can keep one in the house and one in the truck. Wick is long enough that you can cut it in half. I used 91% isopropyl and it works great. Then switched to Heat in the yellow bottle (don't use the one in the red bottle) and it burns amazingly. Puts off lots of heat and boiled a small camping mug in just 7 minutes. It is a mini burner LoL. Will buy another 2 pack to use all 3 for camping and one at home for an emergency. The base does get hot so please be careful.

I am a sealing wax "veteran." I have been using it for 55 years, starting as a teen with the sticks of wax held in a candle flame and the finally-melted part smeared on (which is the historical method). This method took a whole minute to make the seal because the first application was nearly set by the time more of the stick melted. About 10 years ago, I found candle-powered furnaces and wax "pellets". Candles don't put out enough BTUs, however, even when the flame is almost touching the bottom of the melting spoon. I needed some other melting method. This stove fills the bill perfectly and completes my setup! I'm so glad I found it!Virtually weightless, even when filled. Alcohol capacity very good; use 91% alcohol for greater heat. Gasket slows evaporation; when you open the stove to pour in the alcohol, notice where the gasket has been placed because it won't fit in the lid.I use my stove in a sealing wax furnace of this design: https://www.amazon.com/Melting-Furnace-Yoption-Warmer-Sticks/dp/B07M5KPP7P/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2A1L55GTV0T56&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.GdEfs48IAchohKiHXsxgysT0wptkfUWkD9IZ69cM1ZNadz8K4ij5gbNwzdeRb3pRCX8L8RVnkZjwJ1g8KiE4tVQ7J4hoDDcdT9bK1MsOlxvdckfVXu1ZzDQAGi5d8959KswEpMUSSx3pDXUdEk-RUaTWOvMtLASKVS5WnBF4pu3Hd4022BbUo89VwRQxf6s2m5aKtcf0tAz9jwFZTVwS_YuVSAG5iELQfBUCAoC3oxFrAzTDOC7x2YTQmX9rvYr52icChEuUzLdXiucc6-ymACdNIfEF-oElp3LS-8GrCBk.I0r1rFhfh-3RHE8Ux06nxxP3cTjzvTb6sgMW5SdupQQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=sealing+wax+furnace&qid=1708199265&sprefix=sealing+wax+furnace%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-3-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1) - - Note: This furnace is available on Amazon from several sellers.Let me also caution you against electric furnaces characterized by a hole in the center of the melting reservoir. https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Furnace-Sealing-Wedding-Invitations/dp/B09L7GH58B/ref=sr_1_10?crid=2A1L55GTV0T56&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.GdEfs48IAchohKiHXsxgysT0wptkfUWkD9IZ69cM1ZNadz8K4ij5gbNwzdeRb3pRCX8L8RVnkZjwJ1g8KiE4tVQ7J4hoDDcdT9bK1MsOlxvdckfVXu1ZzDQAGi5d8959KswEpMUSSx3pDXUdEk-RUaTWOvMtLASKVS5WnBF4pu3Hd4022BbUo89VwRQxf6s2m5aKtcf0tAz9jwFZTVwS_YuVSAG5iELQfBUCAoC3oxFrAzTDOC7x2YTQmX9rvYr52icChEuUzLdXiucc6-ymACdNIfEF-oElp3LS-8GrCBk.I0r1rFhfh-3RHE8Ux06nxxP3cTjzvTb6sgMW5SdupQQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=sealing%2Bwax%2Bfurnace&qid=1708200415&sprefix=sealing%2Bwax%2Bfurnace%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-10&th=1 (These are also available on Amazon from several sellers.) The reservoir is too shallow; you can't even scoop up the melted wax! I bought one because I figured this type of furnace would keep the wax liquid. I was sorely disappointed; back it went. My understanding is that this shallow one actually was made for the hairdressing trade for attaching hair extensions. However that may be, this design is not for sealing wax. Here is a design that also is less than ideal bcs you must use a candle and there's no way to adjust the flame height because the candle height cannot be adjusted. Obviously, this didn't work for me (and probably won't work for you). https://www.amazon.com/Sealing-Furnace-Melting-Wedding-Envelope/dp/B084MHDV8X/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2A1L55GTV0T56&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.GdEfs48IAchohKiHXsxgysT0wptkfUWkD9IZ69cM1ZNadz8K4ij5gbNwzdeRb3pRCX8L8RVnkZjwJ1g8KiE4tVQ7J4hoDDcdT9bK1MsOlxvdckfVXu1ZzDQAGi5d8959KswEpMUSSx3pDXUdEk-RUaTWOvMtLASKVS5WnBF4pu3Hd4022BbUo89VwRQxf6s2m5aKtcf0tAz9jwFZTVwS_YuVSAG5iELQfBUCAoC3oxFrAzTDOC7x2YTQmX9rvYr52icChEuUzLdXiucc6-ymACdNIfEF-oElp3LS-8GrCBk.I0r1rFhfh-3RHE8Ux06nxxP3cTjzvTb6sgMW5SdupQQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=sealing+wax+furnace&qid=1708200415&sprefix=sealing+wax+furnace%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-5 Buy the first design mentioned above. This little alcohol stove is PERFECT for melting the wax.It is a little tall for my recommended furnace design, above, so the flame is a bit too high. (You could hold the melting spoon in the flame, of course.) I cut pieces of wood to set the furnace on to keep the flame lower. (3 pcs so furnace is stable)This stove melts wax -very- quickly. I bought two so I could have an assembly line for large "projects," such as Chr cards. I had to work quickly to keep up with the speed of melting! (So, I bought a second seal and rest them both on a hunk of re-freezable "artificial ice" btw uses in order to keep the metal part of the seal cool so it doesn't stick in the wax.)INSERT THE WICK FROM THE =TOP=, which is counter-intuitive and not mentioned. Even so, I had to use nail polish to make the end more "pointed" to fit thru the hole. After you apply polish, twist end to a sharp point. Twist again 1-2 min later, while still 'wet'. Dry well overnight. Repeat if the wick splays during insertion. You may have to lop off the end and start over making the point. The wick insertion is really my only gripe. It's fiddly and takes a while. Works fine, though, once you get it in place.Don't hesitate. I think you will be very happy with this stove, no matter what you're using it for. It was the missing piece to my sealing wax setup. I'm thrilled! mb

Works great with lamp oil. Fits perfectly into the UCO lantern, and will end up being cheaper than their candles. Now on the down side, o-ring is loose, easy to loose and they only come with 2 wicks, one each, a couple extra would have been nice. Looks like the wicks are the same as for zippos. All in all I am happy with the purchase!

Bought these to be a UCO candle that I could refill and found them to be great!I didn't have any problems getting the wick through the top. I planned on using some jute rope and making my own wick but the provided wick worked just fine so I stuck with it. I use lamp oil and not alcohol as it's better suited for this type of burner, the alcohol burns too fast for the wick to survive.I've used it thus far to start up fires when it's wet out (and thus wet tinder/kindling) where it did the trick with ease. I also tested it under a wool blanket to make a mini warm pocket with a UCO lamp which worked well, I sat outside in 30 F degree temps with just a tshirt with a wool blanket over me and this candle under the blanket and was nice and comfortable. I don't have any leaking issues, but I did make a little plug for the air hole so that doesn't leak/splash fluid into the top chamber while it's in the pack and not in use.

I used the taller lights, they put out enough light to see rather well once your eyes adjust, but they do get quite warm, I would suggest putting something between them and whatever you place them on. Probably a coaster would work well. I used a square of a pizza box, overall happy with them.

If you get these thinking you can use them for any real light you will be very disapointed. They give little to no light and burn out in about 25 mins. But only because of the small size.

Fun fact, the wicks for these burners are made of fiberglass and copper wire. There is no indication anywhere in the packaging that the wicks are fiberglass, I only found out when I felt the shards stuck in my hands! It's wonderful, also the wicks are larger than the hole for the burner, which is great to prevent leaking, but it's nearly impossible to put in the lid. Combine that with the fiberglass and you're going to have one hell of a time trying to set it up. I don't recommend buying this unless you want shards of glass in your hands, it burns alright though.

I purchased this little lamp more for the novelty factor than anything else. It works fine. The hard part though is just getting the wick through the hole in the cap. A previous reviewer detailed his solution, Strategy #1.Strategy #2: My own strategy was to use scotch tape and some pliers. I wrapped 1 inch of tape to a sharp point on the wick and threaded it through the hole. Then, I used pliers to gently pull the wick up. Once pulled through, the wick is snug and stays in place. There is no danger of it slipping back down into the reservoir.A tea light has a brighter flame. I don't know if that's a function of the fuel (paraffin wax vs HEET) or the wick. In any case, it works, it's cute but in an emergency, I would rather have a tea light candle in my back pocket and save the HEET for the Trangia.
