I was rewiring an outlet strip and my daughter said she would not use it if it did not have a fuse or circuit breaker at the working end. Picky, picky. I tell you some people are more interested in doing things safely than in getting work done. On the other hand, she learned the correct (and safe) way to do a lot of stuff during her time in the Marines and maybe I should pay attention to what she has to tell me.I was rewiring the outlet strip because I blew it up fiddling with a space heater (aka, home ignition unit). Given that the wiring is all 14 AWG, a ten amp breaker or fuse would be what is needed for that device. What's more ten amps is about right for the 1000 watt heater, it is enough to have the device protected with a 16% safety margin so I won't be borderline with tripping. I have used fuses on some equipment and inevitably, a replacement fuse is nowhere to be found when needed. This can be manually reset. What's more, it can be reset more than once. If you reset it over and over, you are asking for trouble but I don't need to tell you that. The listing for this says "Thermal switch." I'm not sure what's thermal about it. Maybe inside it is a thermal breaker, not magnetic like others. Thermal is good. That means it is "slow-blow" so it won't trip with the current surge for a motor start up but will protect if there is potential for damage. Here is the bad news, (I have to find something to complain about or this would sound like I am shill giving an overly glowing review). Let's see, it is a little bulky compared to an inline fuse. This is not a big for me since I had room but if things were a bit tighter, it might have been. The other complaint is there is not really any super easy way to attach the wires. I crimped a ring terminal on my wires and attached them with screws with nuts but that is complicated. After I got everything put together, it occurred to me that I might have been able to use slide disconnect crimps of some sort. If I were working when the hardware store was open, I could have saved some headaches but that's the way it goes.
