Three steps to determine which part is right for your truck. This motor is only suitable for models with NVG246 transfer case RPO code NP8.

6

Step1:Confirm Transfer Case Switch

  • First, your 4WD switch should look like the picture above. It has automatic 4WD, 2 high, 4 high and 4 low options.
  • If your switch looks like the one above,go to Step 2 to verify that the electrical connectors on the factory Shift encoder motor match

7

Step 2: 8 Pin Electrical Connector

  • Next check whether the connector on your factory transfer case shift encoder is an 8-pin connector, which consists of 4 pins in the first row and 3 pins in the second row.
  • If the electrical connector on your factory transfer case shift encoder motor looks like the one above, go to Step 3 to verify your factory motor.

8

Step 3:Transfer Case Motor Secures with 3 Bolts

  • Finally, the factory motor should have 3 bolt holes and be positioned as shown above.
  • If you confirm that these 3 Steps exactly match, then this transfer case shift encoder motor is suitable for your truck.

Quit working after 4 months after install and was never even activated to 4 wheel drive because it was summer.

It was fast shipping direct fit. Wish it had some helpful information. My transfer case was in 2 hi. It has to be in neutral to install. Luckily found you tube video.

Installed 4WD Transfer Case Shift Encoder Motor which wasn't very hard. I also changed the Transfer case fluid. After getting it installed, all in the proper order and correctly, So I thought. I started up the 03 Tahoe Z71 and had it in 2 wheel drive. I pressed the 4x4 button and it went in to Auto 4x4. WHAT? I push the 2 wheel button again and it went right in to 2x. Ok! I pressed the 4 Low, went in to 4 Low no problem. I pressed the 4x4 button again and it went to 4 Auto again. Not 4x4 Didn't make sense. I went through this a few times. So I decided to see if it was the switch. Before I replaced the switch, I disconnected the battery and realized that was the new switch. I put the switch back in, reconnected the battery and was on my way to the auto shop, to see about getting it on a scope when I decided to press the 4x4 while doing maybe 20 MPH and what do you know, it went in to 4x4. I think disconnecting the battery reset the TCCM. Been working fine every since. I left the battery hooked up in order to make sure the encoder motor was in the proper position before I installed it by pressing the 2 wheel button before mounting it to the TC. I should have disconnected battery once I knew it was in 2 wheel. So if you have that problem, here's the reason. Disconnect the battery before mounting the encoder motor. Than reconnect it when done.

This was an exact match and installed easily. It took care of the original problem, slipping into neutral while driving in 2hi. However, now 45 days later it no longer will go into 4 hi. 4 low and 4 auto work, but 4 high blinks and then selects 4 auto.

This part is working fine; can't speak to it's long term durability yet. It is a little noisy when shifting, but maybe that will change over time. They included two stubby bolts that don't fit it and I have no idea what they're for...just reuse the three bolts you take out of the old unit, obviously. Does not come with the gasket, as you'll be reusing the old one. It looked like the one I took off. They're are no instructions; if you have the skill set to do this yourself, you don't need them any way. Do remember that it is set for Neutral, and to set your electronic selector in Neutral on the dash; turn the key to "Run", put the truck in N, then hold down both the 4L and 2 H at the same time, until the red light shows at the N position. Or was it 4L and 4H? Can't remember, you'll figure it out. If it will not move, you can use pliars to move it into the N position under the truck., Good luck, and enjoy saving hundreds of dollars by doing it yourself.
