I figured this engine guard would be a custom fit design for my 2003 V-Rod since it's listed as fitting. Well boy was I wrong. First off, the installation is a lot harder than expected. This comes with a single 1 page instruction sheet which is the most basic you can get. It tells you what to take off, but not how to do it other than the foot pegs and pedals on one side. for the other side it says repeat for other side.So here's my additions to the instructions. after removing the foot peg/pedal mounts, DO NOT PUT THEM BACK ON UNTIL YOU HAVE THE BAR FULLY MOUNTED. you will be removing the pedals to get the bar to fit on the rear mounts. The upper front mount is ridiculously hard to get to since the full radiator cover has to be removed. Removing the side radiator covers are easy as only 1 torx bolt holds each of these on. Now the fun part. 2 bolts on each side hold the radiator front cover on, but you will also have to remove your rear brake fluid reservoir, and a few wire harness clips on the other side. Mine still wouldn't come off, so I got fed up with it, drilled a hole in the plastic upper radiator cover and fed the bolt through there. The upper bracket of this engine guard has to go behind the radiator mount as it won't slide behind it once the bolt is in, so it has to be lined up and against the hole before the bolt goes in.Now once the upper mount is in, put the side bars on and tighten them up.After all this, when you go to put your shifter side bar on, you will find THE SHIFT PEDAL HITS THE BAR! Don't bother trying to raise your shifter with the adjustment of the linkage. it will set your pedal at an 85 degree angle from the peg so downshifting won't be possible unless you lift your foot off the foot peg.I will have to take this bar off again to pound a very large dimple in this bar to make the pedal functional again. Don't bother looking for a shorter shift lever since the arm is exclusively for a V-Rod. If you do find one, it'll be 80-100 for one.In my opinion, I do like the look of this bar, but it's not worth the headache of installing and modifying it to fit. This is not custom fit for a 2003.

Finally I found this crash bar for my V-rod muscle. Looks really nice!!! Compare to the other ones they sell. Kudos to the seller.

The instructions are not for this product. Makes for a difficult install. Also, Shifter peg rubs. Had to bend in the metal with a mallet to make room, therefore diminishing the structural integrity.

I love this item and took a chance eventhough that there were no reviews on this item. Once I got it I had no problems installing the engine guard, however the kit was missing the M8 screws and I was unable to mount it immediately. Fortunately for me the customer support staff made it all right by sending me another set of replacement screws and FED-EX'ed it to me. Once installed I got so many compliments that my VROD looked even more aggressive, the engine guards definitely makes it looks even more menacing !!I highly recommend this item and if you encounter any issues their support staff will do whatever it takes to ensure customer satisfaction.
